It All Comes Down to May 31
by Mary Katharine Ham

Clinton won Kentucky decisively, as expected. Obama won Oregon decisively, as expected.

As expected, the interminable race persists.

Clinton has vowed to stay in until June 3, despite everyone in the media counting her out entirely. I say "rock on." She's come this far and she does have a tenuous claim on the popular vote count.

In Oregon, they weren't keen on Hillary's gas tax holiday.

In Kentucky, they weren't keen on Obama's values.

The DNC's Rules and Bylaws Committee will meet May 31 in Washington, D.C. Among other things, they'll decide whether to seat delegates from Michigan and Florida-- both states punished by the DNC for holding their primaries early and thus stripped of their delegates. Hillary won both states, but neither candidate campaigned in either, and Obama wasn't even on the ballot in Michigan. Hillary will fight to have them seated, but the chances look pretty slim.

Meanwhile, some women are really mad about Hillary's treatment:

The following email leaked to us from a prominent supporter of Sen.
Hillary Clinton shows us firsthand the anger among the older women who
are the mainstays of her campaign, and a necessary ingredient of a
victory for rival Sen. Barack Obama in November:

"There are millions of voters who feel as you do, that the
Democratic primary campaign uncovered the pervasive and insidious
sexism that runs rampant through our country. That Hillary Clinton is
the most qualified candidate, and that she is being cheated out of the
nomination by the good old boys network, the DNC and the Mainstream
Media. You are angry. You are in a rage. I am too.

How do you feel about her chances and her treatment?

Still a Chance

I think Clinton stil has a chance, I am still hopeful.  I think another part of the sexism is instilled in many of us who are a little older and grew up in a household where women were not leaders.  I hear it in the voices of those who support Obama, they dislike Clinton based on a gut instinct or just cause.  Plus the media is discusting, especially Tim Russert.
