A few nights ago, Dan and I went out for dinner to our favourite restaurant. As we sat there enjoying our first course, Dan commented on how much he was lovin' his beet salad. Yes, the guy had actually ordered a beet salad.
(You see, he rarely gets to enjoy his precious beets because I can't stand the things and refuse to cook them.)
It reminded me of a recent Dr. Oz show.
"Speaking of beets, you should have seen this guy that Dr. Oz had on yesterday."
"Oh, yeah? He was going on about beets?"
"Well, he holds the Guinness Record for having the world's best memory. The guy can remember 68 decks of cards."
(eyebrows rise in disbelief)
"68 decks?"
"Well . . . maybe it was 64. Sixty-something. I think. . . Anyway, Dr. Oz had him do a demonstration. He flipped over a deck of cards, one by one, then asked the guy to name each card from memory, in order. And he did it perfectly."
"Hmph! I wonder if they let him into the casinos in Vegas..."
(We both grin at the thought)
"Anyway... This guy says he regularly eats three foods that are super memory enhancers."
"Memory enhancers? And one was beets?"
"Mm-hmm. Beets. And Avocados. Both are known to improve memory."
"And the third? You said there were three foods."
"Yeah, three . . . And the third food was . . . (a frown of concentration wrinkling my brow) Um . . . Uh. . . (the frown deepens) Hmm. . . I can't remember the third. . . . . "
"I think," Dan says, (completely straight-faced) "you should learn to like beets."
