It's gardening time!

Hello, Hello!  Today I started my garden for the year!  I am super excited.  This will be the fourth year that I have done a vegetable garden and I just love it.  Fresh tomatoes and cucumbers all summer long!  What could be better?

Usually I start with seeds inside in March but this year I dilly dallied around and April snuck up on me.  My husband prepared the box for me a few weeks back so I wias all set to go ahead and just put the seeds in the ground.  Today I planted carrots, cabbage, 2 types of basil, chives, peas, cucunbers and season peppers(all of my West Indian friends should appreciate that).  This weekend I will go to our new found garden center, Jack Frost and pick up a few tomato plants, cucumber plants and a green pepper plant.  Yes I did plant cucumber seeds but my luck with seeds isn't that great and I must have cucumbers!  Better to have too many than none at all.

We have found that having a garden definitely saves us money all year long.  Not only do we have fresh veggies at our beckoning call but we also freeze the things that can be frozen like tomatoes to use during the year.  We also do the same with the fresh fruit that we pick during the summer at our local farms like strawberries and peaches.  I think this year we are also picking blueberries. We go with friends  who have a daughter the same age as mine, and not only do the girls love it the fresh frozen fruit makes the BEST smoothies!

I will keep you all posted on how my garden is going as the spring and summer continues. Hopefully it will be fruitful.  Keep saving money.  It's not a trend, it's a lifestyle!
