It's Never Too Late To Be Thankful
By Parker C Quinn on November 28, 2012
It doesn't take a lot effort to be thankful for what we have and don't have in our lives.
While I am in currently hosting a one-woman pity party, I am very thankful and grateful that my children and family are essentially healthy and not battling any life-threatening diseases.
I am thankful and grateful that my children are so resilient and strong.
I know that we have faced many medical challenges and I certainly realize that we have been more than blessed and lucky in many ways. I know that things could be so much worse.
I am thankful and grateful that they (and I) survived their prematurity and the 42 long days in NICU; seemingly endless visits from physical, occupational and speech therapists; hospitalizations and operations.
I am thankful and grateful that the aneurysm in my son's coronary artery (from Kawasaki Syndrome) hasn't grown or calcified and is no longer causing an obstruction. It has not shrunk, it is still present, but it is not creating a dangerous situation.
I am thankful and grateful that my daughter's malformations are on her leg and not entwined around a vital organ, or severely affecting her ability to stand, run, jump, play, or participate in roller hockey and cheerleading.
I am thankful and grateful for my loving and supportive family who have helped steady me as I struggled to learn more about each diagnosis that have been labeled upon our children for so long.
I am especially thankful and grateful for my children.
Lesson learned: We are blessed.
