It's not my perfume, it's my mascara!

What does your favorite lipstick smell like? Probably like vanilla or fig or rose or something along those lines, right? I have at least one lip gloss that's strawberry-banana, and one that's strawberry-kiwi.

But what about your blush? Your powder? Your mascara? What do they smell like?

I'm intrigued by the constant shifts and tweaking of cosmetics to work in more and more fragrance. While I think it can sometimes go over the top (rose-scented mascara, anyone?), there are a couple of products where I particularly love their smell as part of the whole package.

- Benefit's Benetint is one of my favorite cheek stains; I wear it pretty much every day. I like the flush it gives me, but I also like the soft rose scent of it as well.

- Fresh's Sugar Lip Treatment is super-moisturizing and smells like lemon drop candy. It's extremely rich (I can apply it to just my lower lip, press my lips together, and that's enough), which is good because it's, well, kind of pricy! But at least it has SPF in it, so I'm not just spending money on a super-moisturizing lip balm that doesn't protect my lips from getting sunburned. (Fresh does, by the way, have a perfume that smells like this -- Fresh Sugar, which is one of my favorites.)

- Bliss's Clog-Dissolving Cleansing Milk (isn't that a charming name?) has been my face wash of choice for almost a year and a half now, and I am usually totally not that monogamous when it comes to skincare. That said, I've stuck with the Clog-Dissolving Cleansing Milk not just because it's good for my skin, but because it has this awesome grapefruit-y citrus smell.

- Speaking of skincare that smells good, I liked all of the products I tried from the Suki skincare line, from the yummy lemongrass exfoliating foaming cleanser to the chamomile balancing toner. They're organic, they're vegan, and they're available at Whole Foods.

- And let's not forget Burt's Bees Lemon Butter Cuticle Cream, either, for its tangy lemon scent.

Do any of your favorite beauty or skincare products have a fragrance that's part of their appeal? What about ones that don't have a smell you like, but you still love 'em anyway? (Because I have a couple of those too...)

There are a couple of products that come to mind.  I love Herbal Essences hairspray - I once had a guy compliment me on it.  I was also surprised by the scent of Maybelline's Colossal mascara - it has a pleasant floral scent.

I am currently using St. Ives Apricot Blemish Cleanser.  I love the fresh, fruity apricot fragrance.

I also like Lubriderm Daily Moisture Body Lotion which is fragrance-free.

The most important factor that determines whether I use a product is whether it performs.  A nice fragrance is merely icing (pardon the pun).

FYI - I have developed hundreds of beauty products in my career and the #1 reason companies put fragrances in their products is to mask the odor of the ingredients in the formula. The second reason to create a unique, pleasant sensory experience that gets consumers to become "hooked" on the product.
