January 2013 already!!

It is 2013 already!!  This is the first post for the year- let’s take a second and relish this moment,  I mean really this moment will never come again.  The house is very quiet for me.  Thomas has gone back toFortJacksonto finish up what he needed to get done there then he will come toFortSillfor his AIT training.  I am looking forward to having him that close.  It has been a long time.  We had a great visit over this holiday season.  We were together with family at Christmas and spent the New Year together and I actually stayed awake to see midnight!  I know that was a tough thing for me.  This has been the first evening I have been able to watch a whole movie without falling asleep in my chair.  I have been so exhausted from the traveling and all the hoopla around having Thomas home! I have enjoyed every moment and am looking forward to the next time he can visit.

I have a friend who volunteered and took Shorty for me.  She kept him for the last few days Thomas had here so he could enjoy the last of his visit without getting growled and barked at.  I am thankful for that because it was about to get on my last nerve!  I am telling you. I understand that is what I was paying Shorty for to protect me but after awhile enough is enough. My friend is trying to find him a new place to go to.  I will get another dog but am waiting until all the travel is done.  Thomas will have a pinning ceremony after AIT is completed and he graduates from that.  Once that is done then I will go to the pound and adopt another, little bigger dog.  I need something that won’t keep getting out of any holes in the fence and will be small enough that we won’t have to take turns being in each room in this house.

I have plenty to keep me busy in the mean time- I have the rest of my Christmas presents to finish.  I was able to make part of the gifts but have a tote bag for everyone to complete.  Plus I have a couple of other sewing projects to complete- I have them all cut out and ready to go I just need to sew them together.  Also, I am still working on getting the cutest, little rent house ever organized again.  I found a desk I want and am working on figuring out how to get it here and need to move some furniture around to make room for it.  I think after that I will be done until I can afford to buy the cutest little rent house ever and make it the house of my very own!  That will be a glorious day! At that point I have plans to expand the house a little bit and to do some painting and new furniture would be just great!  All in God’s timing- I would need to have my budget open up a little bit to be able to afford the mortgage and to be an impact giver I feel I am called to be.

This is the time of year that some of us fast to begin the New Year on the right foot. To set aside this time and focus on Jesus and what he has in store for us this year.  I am ready to start tomorrow and have a list of things that I am speaking to God about – I have a couple of personal things but am also focusing on where God wants this blog to go and to work on my book and the craft projects he keeps showing me. Also about how he is going to open my budget up –I am still very obsessed about working within my budget and not allowing it to get out of hand!  It is very important to me to be able to hear God’s voice and to wait for his direction.  Fasting to me is a great way to get clear headed and quiet.  It is the best time to hear God’s voice.  Our flesh is noisy.  It wants what it wants and wants it now!  It is kind of like that two year old in us- you know that part of us that decides if we don’t get what we want then life is just not meaningful anymore. (Picture yourself with your hand on your hips and stomping your foot –that is always what comes to mind for me when I think about that)  When we can make our flesh be quiet then we can truly see what God is trying to show us.  What we need to change in our lives, what we need to make different so we are truly walking into our destiny.  Make sure we are doing what God has called us to do and not just doing what we think we want to do.  I have found that once I heard from God and know what it is I am supposed to be doing here on this earth my life has been filled with more meaning that ever!  Fasting helps me to get the clear head necessary to make the right decisions.  If you decide to fast don’t forget to ask God to protect you from Satan- Satan will notice that you are fasting and throw all kinds of ugly your way if you are not careful.  Don’t believe his lies!! He is defeated under your feet and this fast will help you be strong enough to walk out God’s plan for you for the rest of this year!!  It is good also if you feel comfortable enough to allow others that are fasting know you are with them. Pray for each other and keep in touch during this time.  Sometimes a call from a friend who knows what you are going through is enough to help you through a difficult moment.  Choose a fast you can deal with and make a contract between you and God. I have found when I say it out loud and write it down then I am more likely to complete the fast and not break it at the first sign of difficulty.  What and how you fast is between you and God, know that what ever you fast God will honor it.  He will notice that you are working at getting closer to him and he will cherish that time together as well.  Is that not the coolest thought ever?  God looks forward to this quiet time with us as much as we look forward to the time with him!  That just blows my mind!

Every time I think about fasting I think about the scripture in Matthew.  It talks about fasting in secret.  So I am not telling you that I am fasting for any reason other than I am being honest and this is what I am doing for the next 21 days.  There are a few of us that have been doing this for several years.  We meet and pray over each other and encourage each other during the time we are fasting.  Not so we can feel special but because we know this is something God has called us to do and we are ready to be obedient.

 Matthew 6:16-18 (NLT)

16 “And when you fast, don’t make it obvious, as the hypocrites do, for they try to look miserable and disheveled so people will admire them for their fasting. I tell you the truth that is the only reward they will ever get. 17 But when you fast, comb your hair and wash your face. 18 Then no one will notice that you are fasting, except your Father, who knows what you do in private. And your Father, who sees everything, will reward you.

Did you notice when you read this part of the scripture that it says when you fast?  Not if but when you fast.  The verses around it are talking about when you pray and when you give as well.  If you read these passages you will see that God is saying these are all things you should already be doing. I noticed this a few years ago. It does not say how long you are to fast or what kind of fast you should do – again that is between you and God. But it does lead me to believe because God said when you fast that we should do it. Okay this is one of those we meaning me moments again!!  Also, he talks about when you pray to go into your closet and pray in secret and when you give to not let the right hand know what the left hand is giving.  God will see/hear you and he appreciates what you do.  That to me is awesome!  I am not doing it for any rewards I am doing it because I want to be obedient to God’s word.  How you interpret it is one more of those things that are between you and God.  And I am not saying my way is the only way- I am only able to talk about what I know and what God has shown me in my life.  I am supposed to share what I have learned while in the valley – fasting is something I learned about and will go in to more detail in my book and might expand more if you all want to hear more about it in future blog entries.

In the mean time – life is really good! I have a friend who asked if I wanted to get together once a month and start to pray over our families and the needs we might have.  I am very excited about that- what way to start out the year! With a new prayer partner and a chance to grow a friendship! We are going to help each other get more organized with our couponing as well.  Now that can be nothing but good!  An extreme couponer I am not trying to be – however I do want to be a better steward of my grocery budget.  The more you can use coupons the better!  I will go into more detail in the next couple of days about how come I am so obsessed with my budget and how I was able to get a handle on it.

I for one am really looking forward to what is in store for me (well for all of us) this year!

I am praying for you!
