Jason Wu: The After Party with Brizo

I hope you enjoyed Jason Wu's 2013 Spring/Summer collection yesterday.  It was an amazing experience, the fastest, most beautiful 11 minutes of my life!  Jason Wu's pieces were absolutely beautiful!

After the show, the ladies and I had a nice lunch at the hotel, The Eventi, and then went to our rooms to freshen up for Jason Wu's After Party with Brizo.  The After Party was another fabulous event, located at the MPE Penthouse.  The view of the city was stunning!

Here we were able to have a Q&A fire side chat with Jason Wu.  Before the Brizo Fashion Week Event, we submitted questions for Jason to answer regarding his new runway collection and his new Brizo collaboration.  I think you will love getting to know a little more about him as much as we did.

1. What was your inspiration for your runway collection?

  • A powerful, sexy, and beautiful woman.  Also, Lilian Bassman, because her photographs embodied the female form.  I wanted to enhance the female form in this collection, like all my collections, but in this particular collection, I wanted to add fantasy and provocation.  You can find inspiration anywhere, you never know when it will strike.

2. Tell us about the production/collaboration in order to put the show together:

  • I've worked with these people (hair, set production, makeup, etc) for many, many years.  We've grown together; it's an accumulation of people that are truly talented and dedicated to my show.  Their efforts with mine, make the show; not just me!

3. What designers, interior designers, artists have influenced you most?

  • It's important to me to pay attention to so much around you.  Fashion and Interior Design influence one another together, we use one another as inspiration.

4. What influenced you in designing your faucet with Brizo?

  • I wanted a Black faucet; thats a'll I wanted!  My love of the silhouette, love of form---the feminine form.  "Then we have to put the faucet in the most fabulous little black dress!"  "Why not make it beautiful?"  I loved that Brizo let me do my thing when working with them.  It was about making beautiful things, and working with a company that makes beautiful things--like Brizo.

5. Biggest design challenges faced when designing a Jason Wu/Brizo collection?

  • Judd Lord (Brizo Lead Industrial Designer)---getting Jason's time because he is so busy.
  • Jason--how do I interpret beauty into something that's not clothes?  And the lead time to create the faucet design.  In fashion, the lead time to create a dress (couple of days) is so much faster than faucet production (2 years).  What I do is quite instant.

7. What was the defining moment in your career?

  • The obvious one is when First Lady, Michelle Obama, wore my gown at the Inaugural Ball.
  • But truly every season is a defining moment because he discovers something new about himself

8. What's your favorite phrase or quote?

  • "Excuse my beauty!" from an old episode of Cops

I thought I would end on such a fun answer!  "Excuse my Beauty", I love it; don't you?  Well I truly hope you enjoyed the Q&A with Jason.  I certainly did!  Before you go, here are a couple of shots of all the bloggers and the Brizo team at the event!
