#RowlingReturns! J.K. Rowling Announces New Novel Will Be For Adults

Yes, the day has finally come. J.K. Rowling has announced that she's publishing a new novel. The Blair Partnership website updated earlier today with the news. Details, including the title, will not be released until later in the year but they have confirmed that the novel will be targeted at adults.

There has been much speculation about what Rowling will publish next. Those hoping that she may continue on in the Harry Potter world had their hopes raised after her 2010 interview with Oprah Winfrey when she said that she thought she was done, but "you never know." Some people speculated that she might publish her own Harry Potter encyclopedia but that idea was rather smashed when she announced the Pottermore website. While Pottermore is still facing some development issues, and currently not open to new users, it's been designed to be the depository of her Harry Potter knowledge.

What will be next? We're still not sure but a handwritten note from Rowling on the Blair Partnership website reads, "While I have loved writing it just as much, my next book will be very different from the Harry Potter series."

Are you excited about the J.K. Rowling news? Will you buy her new book?

Not a whole lot to base an opinion on at this point.  I'm kinda glad she is not doing any more HP.  I know I'm in the minority, but I found the last books in that series to be longish, and I'm not meaning in the number of pages. I loved the first 4 or 5.

I simply can't wait!

I'm already soooooooo excited.

I had placed pre-order for each of her books from Harry Potter and chamber of the secrets to The tales of the Beedle the bard.

I am sure she will deliver a wonderful masterpiece of whichever genre it would be.

tennismama You know, I still have not read The Tales of Beedle the Bard. Or the school books she released for charity. (Those are the wrong versions and they are bugging me. I have US editions of those and Canadian/UK editions of everything else...)

I've never read Potter, but she is someone I admire lots, and would love to read her effort with something non-fantasy.

nellewrites You know as much as you may not like fantasy I *do* think you'd like the overall theme of the Harry Potter books.

Well, I will definitely buy it. I think she is a very good writer with lots of imagination. And yes there is a "but!" I also hope it doesn't disappoint. But my fear of disappointment has nothing to do with the great HP books she's written. Anytime I buy a book I sit and hope I will like it and have not wasted my money. :)

Thank you for the heads up!

HomeRearedChef I think that this new book will be very polarizing. People will either love it (I mean really, really love it) or be disappointed that it's not Harry Potter / didn't make them feel like Harry Potter did. Honestly, if I was here I'm not sure I could stand the pressure of trying to publish something outside the Harry Potter bubble.

Oh my gosh--you've just made my day!!! I'm thrilled! Our oldest son and I used to compete to see who could read each HP book first--he would hide them from me when he went to school, the stinker! He truly grew up with the series--he's 21 now--and our girlie blew threw the series in a week when she was 8. Now, I'm so excited for our youngest (6) to start reading them. I think I'll reread them all with him. She is such a phenomenal storyteller.

I worry, though, because you know how human nature is. JK was so incredibly successful that I fear the reviewers will never give her a fair shake with her new novel. Still--I can't wait to read it! And I've used far too many exclamation marks in this post! That's how excited I am!!!

Thanks for sharing!

Julie Adolf I suspect the reviews are going to be brutal and there will be a lot of "but it's no Harry Potter" type of phrases thrown around. But let's be honest, she's not going to sell based on reviews. She's going to sell by being JK Rowling.

I'm really excited to see what she's going to do for an adult audience.

I can't wait to read what J.K. Rowling has in store for us next. I totally geeked out over the Harry Potter series and I can't wait for her to release an adult book.

Irish Duchess I am so curious about the new book. Will be contemporary? Historical? Fantasy? Gah! So many questions!

Could not get into the Harry Potter books at all, so I'm not sure what to expect from her for adults.

I'm reserving. Judy Blume was a gread children's writer, but I can't stand her adult stuff. I think Rowling wrote for children and adults enjoyed it. But not sure how her writing for adults will work out.

reserving. I kind of feel like Harry Potty is Twighlight for kids. I never got the sense of her being a true "great" like CS Lewis; she's just easy to read, highly readable. I can totally wait till it's in the library...
