It is inevitable that you will search for a job at least once in your life. Whether you are fresh out of college and looking for an entry-level position or you find yourself looking for work after 20 years at the same company, it is important to be efficient when conducting your job search.
Your resume is the most important part of your job search. In almost every case, it will be the first impression you make on a company's hiring manager, and it is imperative that impression is a good one.
A good resume begins with a good font. You might feel that Comic Sans shows your whimsical side or that Helvetica looks sophisticated but when it comes to your resume, you should stick with the basics. Using Times New Roman at 12 point is a good, basic, readable way to go.
Your resume's content should include all of your contact information, a profile or objective, and keywords and accomplishments that are relevant to the field in which you're conducting your job hunt. Include your full name, phone number, email address and any relevant websites and follow with the objective, which you should tailor to match the job. When you include accomplishments, use keywords and phrases that match the job to which you’re applying. Do not include information that won't matter to the hiring manager. If you are applying to work at a design firm, they aren't likely to care that you worked at Subway in high school, even if you call yourself a former sandwich artist.

Everybody knows that appearance is important in the job interview, but it is just important when you are searching for a job. We live in a world of technology, one in which your Facebook profile and that one crazy Instagram picture are easily searchable. Be sure your online appearance is professional. Personal albums should remain (or at the very least, friends only) and every public photo of you should be family-friendly.
Once you have a stellar resume and professional online image, it's time to start the actual job search. In addition to nationwide job search sites, your local paper may post the classifieds online. If you have some specific potential companies in mind, their website likely has job openings listed. You can even use a social network in your search. Ask your Facebook friends if they know of any openings in your field and be sure to create a LinkedIn account. LinkedIn is the Facebook of the corporate world, allowing you to network with friends, colleagues and like-minded individuals to help you further your career.
People needed jobs to make money hundreds of years ago and they will need jobs to make money hundreds of years from now. Even if you aren't actively seeking a new job, it is important to keep these tips in mind. Keep a great resume on file, keep your online and physical appearance professional and never pass up an opportunity for networking, and you'll go far in the world of job hunting.
