Position: Account Executive, Advertising Sales – New York City

BlogHer, the leading participatory news, information and entertainment community for women online, seeks an experienced Online Account Executive to join a dynamic sales team that is building sponsorship programs with Fortune 500 marketers. The candidate must be interested in working in an entrepreneurial, start-up environment and have experience selling high quality online content and creative marketing programs to clients and advertising agencies. This individual must have current client direct and agency contacts. S/he must be an advocate of social media and word-of-mouth advertising. S/he must be willing to be an advocate and educator at the front line of new marketing practices, and s/he must feel strongly about promoting best practices and high editorial standards.

Responsibilities:

  • Help educate clients and agencies regarding the power of the women’s blogosphere.
  • Clearly understand and communicate client marketing objectives to BlogHer team
  • Prospect, build and maintain relationships within assigned territory at both client and agency levels
  • Co-create proposals for sponsorship programs with BlogHer client services unit
  • Work in tandem with conference/event sales team
  • Consistently meet or exceed sales goals
  • Regular reporting to SVP sales

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • 4-5 years experience selling online media
  • Client and Agency media contacts in women’s consumer verticals
  • Strong presentation skills—in-person and in writing
  • Experience and/or interest in blogs and social media
  • Entrepreneurial: Experience cold calling and contact-building
  • 2+ years experience with integrated/consultative selling
  • Interest and/or experience in account management
  • Proficiency in PowerPoint and Excel
  • Experience with Salesforce or other contact database management software

Position: Ad Operations Coordinator

BlogHer, the number-one community for women who blog, seeks an Advertising Traffic Coordinator to assist in building, executing, and monitoring online advertising campaigns on the BlogHer Ad Network. This role is integral to the success of the Online Advertising Sales program. It requires an individual willing to accept the responsibility of ensuring success for BlogHer’s partners as well as each member of the community.

Marketing Programs Manager

Our Marketing Programs Manager will support BlogHer’s PR/Marketing efforts in three key areas:

  • Public Relations:
    • Primary contact with BlogHer’s external PR reps, working on all PR materials, such as press releases, speaking abstracts, media pitches, articles
    • Over see a program designed to enhance, evangelize and clarify the BlogHer brand while growing the spirit and reach of BlogHer’s community
    • Promote and raise the profile of BlogHer’s founders, editors and members
  • Social Media Monitoring and Participation:
    • Track, report and respond to BlogHer references in blogs, Twitter, Facebook etc.
    • Become a significant voice for BlogHer in those spaces, personifying BlogHer’s brand
  • Sales Tools and other Collateral:
    • Program manage development of sales and marketing tools
    • Support sales with proactive, regular updates to our messaging and positioning
    • Maintain the corporate sections of the BlogHer web site
    • Support Director of Marketing Research and Insights, researching market landscape and tracking our performance in various metrics systems we employ

Requirements: Our marketing programs manager will have:

  • Background in marketing, PR and communications, 5-7 years of experience
  • Deep experience with various social media tools, including blogging, Twitter, Facebook
  • Experience supporting executive staff to achieve strategic goals and tactical execution
  • Excellent writing and editing skills in both long-form and short-form
  • Possess strong communications and computer skills, HTML strongly desired.
  • Detail-oriented, even when multi-tasking. Affinity for both creative and organizational tasks.

Position: Assignment Editor

BlogHer, the number-one community for women who blog, seeks an experienced editor for a full-time, freelance Assignment & Syndication Editor contract position.

This person will manage selecting, securing, and promoting content that projects the BlogHer voice and resonates with the BlogHer community, with the goal of growing the number of readers reached by women who blog in the network and BlogHer.com.

It is the assignment editor's job to alert the managing editor of trending topics in the blogosphere; help determine which are worthy of appearing on BlogHer; and find and secure blog posts on those topics. The AE will also seek out content that reflects BlogHer voice and core values as a company that is insightful, connecting, respectful and inclusive. 

The assignment editor is a full-time contract position reporting to the Managing Editor. This is an onsite position in Redwood City, CA.

Key duties:

  • Quickly identify trending topics and breaking stories relevant to the BlogHer community, with a keen sense of timeliness and priority
  • Digest a variety of content streams including personal reading and recommendations from other team members and deliver recommendations on a daily basis
  • Approach bloggers to negotiate content syndication purchase from initial contact to paperwork to fielding payment queries.
  • Assist managing editor with additional promotional and syndication tasks as necessary.
  • Select content to pursue with a never-flagging consideration of BlogHer’s editorial guidelines and with sensitivity to the receiving audience
  • Liase with bloggers for timely procurement of and payment for content
  • Liase with internal resources for the timely publication of content and payment of bloggers
  • Liase with editorial team to help promote content across site, network and content partnerships
  • Personify BlogHer’s voice -- smart, inclusive, authentic, and passionate -- at all times, whether by selecting content for BlogHer.com, by crafting promotional copy, or by writing/editing  for the site
  • Write concise, snappy, clicky headlines, ledes, excerpts and copy for social networking tools that compel the reader to engage with the content, while meeting top UI standards for clarity and maintaining an eye on SEO friendliness
  • Help drive idea generation and development for editorial futures and advertiser-driven content packages, working with creative director, managing editor, community manager, client services and CEO
  • Help the product team achieve reach and scale goal
  • Be able to manage a team of freelance assistant editors if necessary

 The ideal candidate will:

  • Be so familiar with publishing calendars and the blogosphere that she'll have an expectation of upcoming content (e.g.,  "September 19 is talk like a Pirate Day" or "February is Heart Health Month")
  • Understand how to use social networking tools to promote content without becoming a spammer
  • Be passionate about driving traffic, bringing key metrics to the table alongside quality, community and voice
  • Know best-in-breed blogging when she sees it, and know where to start looking to find it
  • Be able to turn on a dime to get breaking content on the BlogHer.com site
  • Display a high standards of professionalism and customer service, both with colleagues and external contacts, and have no problem tracking down and approaching potential content providers
  • Have an eye for balance and be able to appreciate content from a variety of topical verticals, political viewpoints and worldviews

Required experience:

  • 3-5 years editorial experience in an online media company, preferably serving a niche or affiliate audience
  • Experience working in cross-functional, remote teams with varying levels of editorial experience
  • Bonus points for being a blogger!

 Qualifications:

  • Strong background in editorial under deadline, excellent proofreading abilities and editorial skills
  • Crazy-good writing skills that translate into traffic growth
  • Ability to work with others in a demanding, fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
