Jonathan Waud with his wife and 21-month old son.

Jonathan Waud is a model living in Los Angeles and one of the finalists in Bravo's Make Me a Supermodel Season 2, which wrapped last week. Though we wasn't the winner, Waud received the most fan votes for favorite model and took home the title of Viewers Choice.

The man is gorgeous, but the most striking thing about him is his unquestioning dedication to his wife and son. In this fast-paced world, Waud's ability to balance the demands of his career as a model and the needs of his family is something of a marvel. I shot him a couple of questions over e-mail to get some insight into his personal life:

A lot of parents today are working—how do you balance work and being a husband and father

Jonathan Waud: Honestly, I don’t sleep that much. I'd rather sacrifice sleep for being able to enjoy as much time with my family as I can before and after work.

You have one son now. How many kids do you want to have?

JW: Two or three.

How did you meet your wife?

JW: I was at the Grove in L.A. with a friend of mine, and saw this beautiful girl walk into the Coffee Bean. She was a complete and utter stranger but I had to follow her. That was when I fell in love… and started drinking coffee!

I'd never had a total ache in my stomach.... up until I met her I thought I knew what love was. This might sound cheesy and a bit of a cliché, but it really was fireworks. It was completely different from anything I'd experienced before.

How did you propose?

JW: She got back from work and I'd filled the apartment with rose petals and had a candle-lit dinner prepared for her. After dessert I got down on one knee and declared how I had never been so happy in my life and asked if she would continue to fulfill my life forever. The ring cost $300, which was a lot for me at the time, and it came with no box! I spent days getting ring boxes but they all seemed so plain and boring so I ended up finding this beautiful mother of pearl jewelry box. I fastened the cushion from one of the plain boxes inside and placed the ring on it. She still brings this jewelry ring box everywhere we travel. The date of my proposal fell six months exactly from the date of our first date.

What's your favorite memory of your wedding day?

JW: Kissing her....I felt like I had to wait for ages!

What's the greatest lesson you've learned about being a husband and father?

JW: As a husband, romance doesn't have to fade: remind yourself how you felt when your wife was your girlfriend and all the amazing things you appreciated about her... because it’s ALL still there. Good to remind yourself how lucky you are and try to tell her as often as you can. Money and gifts can't substitute affection. As a father my lesson is one of patience. Frustration is not constructive so take the time to play with your child because the better they know you, the better in tune the two of you will always be.

With Make Me A Supermodel wrapping up, what are your plans for the future?

JW: The show, I feel, will be a great launching pad for the future, I will definitely pursue modeling as it’s such a passion and I hope it won't be too long before I'm in front of a television camera again.

I do, too, Jonathan. And I don't think I'm alone there.

"Money and gifts can't substitute affection" - very true. He sounds wise beyond his years. Good for him, and great for his wife!
