Juice Fast Day #2
By: Wendy Castellanos-Wolf
Day 2 started off easily with the only change being that now my husband S was going to officially start his 3-day juice fast. Our juice fast just happened to coincide with one of America’s big eating holidays, the 4th of July, which is usually celebrated with BBQ, beer and fire works. My parents where over in the morning and while they understood my logic for having started a juice fast, they poked fun and kept encouraging S to eat whenever he wanted, and by dinner time, he did just that. My husband’s 3-day juice fast turned into a 3 juice fast period. At the end of juice number 3 S turned to me and said “I’m sick of juice,” and I completely understood because I was kind of getting tired of drinking juice too. He decided that a juice fast was not for him but that he would continue to eat healthy for dinner by making himself a salad.
He came out of the kitchen and told me that he had just eaten an olive and felt f*****g great. I responded by saying that he was going to retoxify, (and this is when we start adding words to the English language), to which he replied that he was not retoxifying, he was happifying.
I was hungry but I really did not want to drink another juice, so I turned to my all time favorite juice, the one that I could never get sick of, wine. I know! Wine is not technically a juice, but studies show that wine in moderation is heart healthy and isn’t this what juicing is all about, getting healthy…? I could barely drink it. S kept trying to finish my glass and I was so annoyed because he could very well pour himself some more. I turned to S at one point and said, “I’m drinking it slowly because I haven’t had any solid food in two days!” That’s when I lost it. The sound of that sentence and knowing that it was true made me laugh hysterically.
I can triumphantly say that I survived day 2, even with my little wine slip. Today is day 3 and my friends and I are supposed to go to the beach. I hadn’t really thought about how juicing on the go would work...
