If you caught Katie Couric's warm, insightful, personal keynote chat with Lisa Stone at BlogHer '12, then you already know that she understands the value of social media. But now Katie is giving bloggers a special seat on her eponymous new daytime talk show. Motivational speaker and blogger Brene Brown, The Bloggess Jenny Lawson, Kelly Wickham of Mocha Momma, Karen of Worn Off Novelties, and Erin Kotecki Vest of Queen of Spain are on Thursday, September 13.
And that's not all. Every day, Katie will play host to two bloggers handpicked to sit in the audience and live-blog the taping as it plays out in real time. Jen and Barb of MomLife were up first on Monday's season premiere, delivering questions direct from the online audience.
@katieshow Thanks for letting us be part of such a fun and amazing day!— Jen & Barb Mom Life (@momlife) September 11, 2012
As Katie told us during her BlogHer keynote:
I really want social media to be part of this new show. We created a website, we want people to really engage. We are going to have two seats for female bloggers at every show. We want to hear from their community. ...And this is an incredible resource for us. We used to hear stuff before, comments about my hair, and it's just a great way to get instant feedback. We are doing the show at 2PM, and we will solicit questions from people on Facebook and Twitter. ...I tried this at CBS, but sometimes traditional media is slow to get it.
I love that. I love that Katie can appreciate the value of both a stream of life-in-the-world coming in to her studio, right alongside snarky comments about her hair. I root for Katie, because I think she cares, and that's something I think will go a long way for her on daytime TV.
I think those of us who heard Katie speak about her new endeavor in her BlogHer '12 keynote last month heard the passion in her voice firsthand, and we're probably all rooting for this new show to be a success. She spoke like a woman in transition, something I personally have some experience with, and I'm willing to be a lot of Katie's audience does too.
I'm really looking forward to what you have in store. Are you planning to watch Katie? And have you seen the absolutely stellar video of her BlogHer '12 keynote? Watch it in its entirety below!
