Keeping some of the natural wood when you paint & distress furniture

I use so many differnet techniques when painting my furniture, but I do have one that I value above all. I love to distress! However, when a piece is in good enough condition, I try to salvage a bit of the wood to "showcase" without paint. There are so many pieces of furniture out there that have such character in the wood, that to hide it would be out of the question! This little antique table is a perfect example of this character.....The top, drawer and shelf were in good overall condition with no need for much touch up, so these were the parts I chose to showcase! I applied Old English For Dark Woods, which brought out this deep, rich color! After repairing the parts on the legs that needed a little work, I painted and distressed. The end result was a charming little side table with tons of character! I loved it so much, that it found it's home in my den.....oops....Check it out at my website www.southerncharmhome.com on my blog page.Little side table
