Kettle Cuisine is a Delight

It is a cold, rainy, winter Monday here in Southern California. Perfect soup weather! I really wish I were home right now.  There is nothing better than wrapping yourself up in a warm blanket, sitting on the couch enjoying a hot bowl of soup; then maybe reading a good book or watching a movie while it rains.

Before going gluten-free, I never realized just how many soups and broths had gluten in them. Because the grocery stores seem to only carry soups filled with gluten, I shied away from trying any soups last year.

Thankfully someone introduced me to Kettle Cuisine and their artisan soups. Kettle Cuisine is a unique company as they began with a simple mission to supply their soups to other Chefs and restaurant owners. Upon the companies 20th anniversary, Kettle Cuisine embarked on a new venture to deliver gluten free soups directly to consumers. This dramatic change from the regular gluten filled soups to gluten-free was due in part to Jerry, the company's founder. Jerry's daughter was diagnosed a Celiac and he realized just how limited the prepared gluten free food options were for the growing gluten-free community. I for one am so grateful for Jerry's foresight, and for Kettle Cuisine making such a wonderful product.

The last few weeks I took my time in sampling all 10 of Kettle Cuisine's soups. Really it is hard to find anything negative to say about any of the soups. All the soups were delightful and better than anything I've ever had out of a can. The soups:

If I were to make any suggestions on improvements on any of the soups, then I would like there to be more clams in the New England Clam Chowder. My personal preference is there should never be more potatoes then clams in a "clam chowder". Also, I think there should be more chicken in the Chicken Soup with Rice Noodles, Southwestern Chicken and Corn Chowder, and the Thai Curry Chicken Soup. Are you noticing a theme? More protein please!

Besides there not being enough protein in some of the soups, I was surprised to find that the sodium content is high in all the soups. That is a bit troubling since I know a few people who would really enjoy these soups, but probably won't buy it because of the high sodium levels. Another suggestion...two words, "sea salt". I hope that Kettle Cuisine will improve upon their products sometime in the near future by going easy on the sodium. That way I can enjoy a second serving and not have to worry about my blood pressure. For more product information check out Kettle Cuisine Soups.

Some other soups I hope they will make in the future: Chicken Soup with Rice (because sometimes you just don't feel like noodles), Split Green Pea Soup, Ham & Bean Soup, Lentil & Spinach Soup, Beef Stew and Manhattan Clam Chowder. Out of the 10 soups, my favorite soup by far was the Angus Beef Steak Chili with Beans. If you're a chili fanatic you will love this hearty blend of meat and beans. It's great for a quick chili fix, when you don't want to go through the hassle of making up a pot yourself. Sometimes that is all I really want anyway, just one bowl of hearty goodness.
