Kids Rooms: Custom Designed Bunk Beds

Designing kids bedrooms can be fun and a challenge--not only do you have to please the parent(s) but also the kid(s).  Depending on the kids' ages safety is a concern as well.  For centuries children have shared bedrooms, and for decades we have used bunk beds.  Gone are the days of the 1980's metal bunk beds, and hello custom built-in bunk beds or custom-made bunk beds.

Donna's Blog: Bunk Beds

Bunk beds are a great bed option for small spaces and can benefit larger spaces as well.  Today there are several ways to design your child's bunk bed, the traditional twin over twin, loft style, twin over full, or twin over queen.  If you child likes to have sleepovers, I suggest you select a bunk bed option with a full or queen below the typical twin bed.

When selecting your child's bunk bed, safety is a concern, so think of how your child can get to the top bunk.  Guard rails, headboard & footboard are a necessity.  How your child can get into the top bunk is also a concern.

There are benefits to designing custom-made bunk beds--creating a bed made to that particular child's needs or wants.  Now with parents wanting extra storage for all their child's toys, etc, bunk beds with drawers built-in is a huge desire.  Also, adding reading nooks with lighting and electrical is another desire.  Here the options are endless.

Many times we see bunk bed combos in mountain or beach vacation homes---a perfect place to house large amounts of children.  The design of those bunk beds vary, from dark wood tones to a painted variety, from contemporary to beach bungalow.
