In the olden days, school was an entirely different affair to what it is today.
When I was young, I vividly remember walking 5 miles to school in the snow wearing only sackcloth and wooden clogs. Then once in the classroom, learning revolved around the 'three Rs': Reading, 'riting, and 'rithmatic (I don't know whose crap idea it was to call it the 'three Rs' when only one of the three actually begins with R). We had no fangled computers; our only resources were a piece of chalk and a slate tablet, and I forget the number of times that I had a Board Rubber launched at my head by the teacher when I gave a wrong answer.
Kids today don't know they are born. For example, today I sent Izzy into school wearing her regulation uniform, and when I went to pick her up, she looked like this:
