Kiwi Rum Shooters

The inspiration for this shot recipe really just came from my looking at a really large box of kiwi's that I had bought just before New Year's. They just all looked so plump and tasty on their big Costco shelf, and so I thought I must take them home and eat them somehow. So, I thought I'd puree them all and add a little alcohol for a refreshingly delightful little shooter.
Which spirit mixes well with kiwi? The obvious choice was Bacardi rum (a clear coconut rum). I would not recommend using spiced rum or dark rum for this recipe. After the first splash of rum into the pureed kiwi, I felt it needed a nice sweet pick up, and so I added the triple sec. Triple sec is the other alcohol in addition to vodka that is used to make the classic Cosmopolitan, so it adds a little blast of citrussy sweetness.. perfect!
I made a big batch of this and chilled it in a pitcher. During my New Year's Party, I served it up fresh in shot glasses. Yes, I was like the shooter fairy.
- 8 kiwis, peeled
- 1-2 cups Bacardi Rum
- 1/2 cup Triple Sec
Puree all of the peeled kiwis in a blender until really smooth. Now add in your alcohol and mix. You can always add more alcohol for that extra bite! If you find that you've added too much, add a couple more kiwis, or a bit of water. Pour into a pitcher, cover and chill for at least one hour before serving. Make sure to stir just before serving!
