When I heard that Laurie Kingston from Not Just About Cancer was writing a book (or a blook as books written from blogs are sometimes called) I was a little worried.

My first worry was how she would be able to choose just the right number and type of blog posts from her very, very deep blog. The job of sifting through ALL of THOSE posts seemed overwhelming to me.

My next worry was how she would handle re-reading all of those posts from some pretty rough moments in her life. I cannot imagine what it would be like to re-read and re-live some of the things she went through.

I've read Not Just About Cancer for years and knew Laurie's story would make a compelling book, if she could only manage to pull the "right posts" and emotionally handle the process.

After reading the review copy of Not Done Yet, graciously sent to me by Laurie, I can say without reservation - she did it. She has written an excellent book.

If you aren't familiar with Laurie or her story, Laurie found a lump in her breast, in 2005. She was 38 years old. She had a career and a family. She started her blog as a way to journal her way through the diagnosis and treatment. When the cancer spread to her liver, and she was given a diagnosis of years, not decades, she kept on blogging... and she is definitely Not Done yet, thank goodness.

Laurie Kingston is one of the strongest women I've had the pleasure of meeting via her blog, her tweets and her panel at BlogHer 08. (Courageous is also a good way to describe her.)

Not Done Yet is real and it is not pink ribbon crazy. There are entries that aren't about cancer at all. There are entries about knitting. Entries about friends. Entries about life.

It has its funny moments, like the time Laurie's son discovered her boob in a box. It has some heartbreaking moments, like hearing her son say "There isn't a chance, is there, that you could die before I come back?">.

I have just one question for Laurie, now that I've read and loved Not Done Yet - when's the sequel coming out?

I also received a review copy, and it blew me away. It is so well done, beautiful, and hopeful. Reading her story and knowing her as a person has helped me deal with the childhood memories of my own mother's cancer. I said to Ma the other day, "She is helping to heal me--I'm so lucky to know her." It's so true. Here is my review:

Love you, Laurie!

I was privileged to meet Laurie and share a meal with her at BlogHer Chicago 2 years ago, and very much look forward to reading her book.

You made feel like I have achieved what I set out to do. Life is so full of good things (including being in remission for almost 2 years and going out for pints with Sassymonkey) - I wanted to convey that along with the anger and the pain. And the laughs. Those are important, too.

Thanks so much for writing this.

And I think the next book I write will be FICTION. ;-)

When you see her, please tell her that I really really do love it. I'm not a breast cancer book fan, ya know. This one - keeper. Real keeper.

But we had to cancel our knitting date because one of her boys is sick. I can't wait to read it. I can honestly say that through her blog and through knowing her I've learned more about living life with grace that I ever could have hoped.
