Lessons From Bob
by Heighten and Explore

I have finished up my love affair (that I am carrying on on Hulu) with Bob Newhart.  I have learned many things. These lessons come from studying, not just watching, what will end up being four seasons of two television series' - The Bob Newhart Show and Newhart. And this was when a season was 24-26 episodes--not this wimpy 13 that most shows do nowadays.

So to show you that time watching Bob is not time wasted, here are the top six things we all can take from The Bob Newhart Show:

6. It only takes one receptionist to handle the offices of a psychologist, a pediatric orthodontist, a urologist, and a plastic surgeon.

5. Pilot's have a lot of "down time", and like to visit their neighbors during such time. Otherwise, they fly all over the world. One day it's Akron, Ohio, two days later it's Sydney, Australia.

4. Always use everyone's first name ALL THE TIME. "Hi Emily!" Response? "Oh hi Bob!" This is also used in conversation. For example: "Jerry? Yes, hi Jerry. Look, Jerry, I was wondering....." and so on.

3. Orthodontists are busy men as well. And they like basketball.

2. ALWAYS hang up your coat as soon as you walk in the door.

And the number one thing I have learned from watching The Bob Newhart Show?

1. You have to turn on the light before you can speak to the person who is in bed with you.
