Let the Midlife Makeover Begin!

Tomorrow, I turn 45, and frankly, I've not been aging well.  I know I look older than my age - part of that I can blame on Demi Moore for skewing the curve, but the truth is, years of on and off sugar binging has left my skin pretty damaged and  my hair prematurely gray.  I've been a serial yo-yo dieter, having gained and lost the same 10 - 40 pounds since high school. And mentally, I'm not happy with a recent spate of searching for words and hopping from task to task without really accomplishing much, particularly in terms of homemaking and mothering.  (Probably wifing, too.)

Moreover, I've had a recent series of health problems that have sent me to my doctor more than a few times, convinced that I am developing rheumatoid arthritis or thyroid cancer (negative on both counts - for now!  I think I saw my doctor writing "hypo-something or other" in my chart, though, so who can say what's really going on?), and a couple of times in the past few years I've wound up in the ER sure that I'm having a heart attack.  I've not been treating my body well, and the piper is demanding his pay.

Conclusion:  When you hit your 40s, you can't get away with the sort of neglect that appeared so benign in your salad days.

Action plan:  A serious makeover year! I'm blogging it to keep myself accountable.  And because I find writing and research energizing, this blog will keep me on task and engaged.  No area is safe.  I'm tasking myself with a complete overhaul physically, mentally, and spiritually.  I am also putting myself on the de-clutter warpath, and I am going to finally find a system to keep household finances in order.

All of this is going to make me a better wife and mother, and, perhaps more importantly, I will live out the second half of my life as my best self rather than settling for keeping appearances somewhat in order as I crawl toward death.

P.S. Are you 40-something, 50-something, or really, anything-something, and in need of a middle-age makeover? Join me! Or if you're already blogging your makeover, send me a link so I can follow your progress, too, and we can encourage each other.
