Boston-area BlogHers

Let's have a Boston-area BlogHers meetup in early June

BlogHer is just around the corner, and we thought it would be fun to do local meetups in the areas where there are a lot of BlogHers.

Like Boston.

Who should come? BlogHers (and Hims) in the Boston-area who would like to get to know each other better. Even if you aren't coming to the conference in July.

And if you are coming, and especially if this is your first BlogHer, a pre-conference meet-up is a great way to get to know at least a few other people before you get there.

We're trying to do them all within the same couple of weeks, preferably Saturday June 6th or Saturday June 13th.

What I need to know from you is:

- Are you in?

- What day is best?

- Where should we have the meet-up? It would be best if it were someplace family friendly, and not terribly expensive. It's a meetup, not a  hosted party; that means no sponsor, we pay for ourselves.

I am more than happy to have a potluck lunch or supper at my house in Hudson Mass. if that works for everyone. Spouses and kids welcome. Everyone BYOB and a dish of some kind. I'll provide plates, cups, silverware etc.

We are fairly centrally located, but you do need a car to get here. But, it's free, we have 3 bathrooms, there is plenty of parking and we have cable TV for the kids.

I'm also open to other suggestions for venue, so please chime in with your thoughts in the comments.

Hope to meet many more of you next month.

Greetings from Rhode Island

Hi Susan -- Would love to meet up before BlogHer (this isn't my first, so I have some pointers for those who haven't been before), but early June dates are tough. The 6th is out for me; 13th a slim possibility. 20th is easier....? Thanks for offering to host.

Best times

Any weekend is good except for the 27/28th. I'm too tired to think of locations right now, but I'll give it some thought later.

Tough dates for me as well

We are celebrating my husband's 50th(!!!) birthday on June 6 and have another event on Jun 13. The 20th is the best bet for me.

I definetly would like to come as I need to ping Susan on being on a panel, since I'll be up there myself coming July.

Boston dates

We were trying to have all the meetups across the country on the same set of days, but if the 20th is looking better for the Boston area folks, t hat is NO PROBLEM.

Let's all spread the word as far as we can over the next week and then make a decision after Memorial Day so people can plan.

The 6th is free for me

Crazy schedule, but my husband's party will be on the 7th, so the 6th would be free for me.

My June calendar is UGLY!

I could do the 6th and probably the 13th, but not the 20th.  I have a wedding to go to.

sounds like fun!

I'd love to join you ladies, but can't make any of those dates!  Can't wait to meet you all in Chicago!

So excited!

This sounds like fun! I'd love to get to know some local bloggers. The only day that doesn't work for me is the 6th, as I'll be home in Baltimore for my little sister's high school graduation.

sounds like fun

I'd love to meet some more local bloggers before July! I can't make it on the 20th, but I can make it on any of the other potential dates.

Sounds like fun!

I definitely can't do the 20th. I could probably do the 6th during the day and possibly the 13th. June is a rough month!

New to Blogher - would love to meet some
local bloghers!

I'd love to join you! I can't do June 6th, but I can do June 13th or June 20th.

Wish the 20th Worked!

It's the day before Father's day so I'll be spending it with my family. The 6th and the 13th work for me! Maybe a Friday evening would be better for everyone?

Do the meetup on Fri pm

Friday evening may be a little more difficult for people that have to come further (like from Rhode Island or Southern NH) but it would be fine with me if that is the consensus.

Just keep indiciating your preferences, I'll tally up what we have next Tuesday am and we can vote or something.

My vote

... Is for the 6th or the 20th.  I've got a conference the 13th and 14th that I'd really hate to miss.

Looking forward to meeting you all!

Love to join you ...

A New Miliennium "Glamma" Grandma

I'm totally new to blogging and this will be my first BlogHer conference. I'm very eager to learn more and would love to meet folks in June.  I live in Houston now, but will be in the Boston area from May 31st until June 19th, thus either of the first two dates would work, but not the 20th.

Provided I can get a sitter. . .

I can do any of those dates, but the 6th is definitely best. My husband has school committments every single Saturday mentioned, so I'll be spouseless but may be able to leave the kids behind.

Susan, you aren't even an hour from my house, so going to your place would be great. Thank you so much for setting this up!

Kids welcome!

Seriously, one of the benefits of having it at the house is that you can bring kids. We've got a swingset in the back, plenty of board game, cable tv, computers kids can use and Wii.

Bring the kids!

They can help entertain mine.  :)

kids

knowing me, I'll probably end up playing with your kids if you bring them haha.

Either works

This sounds great!

The 6th or 13th works great for me.

BlogHer'09 sold out before I could buy tickets, so this would be a great opportunity to meet up with some local bloggers.

I look forward to meeting you all!

This is such a good idea!

I look forward to meeting up with everyone.

Boston June meet

Just joined TODAY and look at what I get to do already!. I can do some taxi services with my little Corolla. I live in Carlisle and can do some westward ferrying to Hudson.

Great Idea!

Pending one thing I might have for June, I think I am open to most of the dates mentioned.  I think that it is great that you are welcoming spouses and children.  I'm sure that is a big reason why some moms are unable to attend the convention.

Spouses & Children at BlogHer

Spouses and children are welcome at BlogHer, but of course, many folks don't bring their families because it is too expensive.

For a local meet up, it seemed to make sense to welcome families since I have a house and yard that will accommodate. Diidn't want anyone to have to pass because they couldn't get a sitter.

And if you don't want to bring spouse/partner or children, that's fine too.

6th & 13th should work

Hi folks,

6th & 13th should work I think. 20th definitely out as I'm taking a much needed weekend away. Thanks for offering your place up to the masses Susan!

Why Not Try For Some Sponsors?

I know it's short notice, but maybe we could get someone local to sponsor this event.  Wouldn't it be nice for the food to be covered and we could just bring fun "swag" to pass out to all the families instead?  There are one or two PR reps who contact me once in awhile who handle local campaigns.  We could also try places like Stop and Shop or Boston Market.

 Just a thought.

Sponsors

There's no problem with trying to get some sponsors to offset the costs, but I think we should keep it simple. If Stop & Shop or another food company wants to give us some gift certificates so we can fund a main dish for the crew -- burgers and dogs  or whatever-- and we all bring side dishes and desserts, plus beverage of choice, let's do it. But let's not go nuts, make this more complicated than it needs to be. I for one haven't got the mental bandwidth for complex these days.

BlogHer has also asked that we keep them in the loop about who we approach as they are also still in talks with companies, and it's better if one hand knows what the other is doing.

Karen & anyone else who thinks they have an in with a possible local sponsor, can you email me sgetgood@getgood.com and we can sort out who is going to do what.

Thanks, and have a great holiday weekend everyone.

Any Saturday is Good For Me!

I just double-checked and I don't have anything big in June on Saturdays that I can't work around.  :)

Decision time

Okay, here are the results based on those who commented. The 13th seems to be the date that most people can make it, with the 6th in second place. So now it's time to commit: ARE YOU COMING? Either date is fine with me and my family, assuming everyone is happy with having it at my house.

My thought is an afternoon cookout - say from 1 or 2 to 5 ish (and we never kick people out!) That way the kids are relaxed and happy, and so are the parents :-) We've got plenty of room if it rains, and plenty of yard for kids to play in if it doesn't.

Feedback in the comments quickish please. Thanks!
