We CANNOT tolerate a leader of the Senate Democratic Caucus who supports George Bush and McCain's War in Iraq. We CANNOT tolerate a Democratic chairman of the Homeland Security and Government Affairs Committee who endorses and stumps for McCain. We call on the Senate Democratic Steering Committee to strip Joe Lieberman of his chairmanship and his leadership role".

You do, but I don't
And I'm a registered Democrat. :-)
Do you really want a party that can tell party members what to say, what to think, and who to support?

Lieberman is not a party member
Lieberman is now an Independent not a Democrat so when the majority party allows him to vote with them and benefit with committee chairmanships and then he actively campaigns against the party? Yes, they can kick him out of bed for eating crackers.
Come November after Dems pick up 5-6 Senate seats Lieberman will be stripped naked.

Lieberman's Damage to Democratic Win
I have to agree with you Marie. I do not know why Lieberman just does not join the Republicans - he belongs with them and 51,000 signatures on a petition indicate there are many that agree- Joe should go.
Patience
Thanks but I wouldn't sign the petition or push to get him out.
There's no advantage to stripping him of seniority now. He helps maintain the razor slim Dem majority in the Senate. And, other than defense issues and his boneheaded McCain support, he votes Democratic.
He might choose to join the Republicans after November but even if he doesn't Democrats can remove his seniority privileges and he can then decide which party to caucus with. Democrats will be in a position to be magnanimous and allow him to continue hanging with them (which is probably the smart choice) or he can take up with the Republicans but that might be the final straw and cost him his seat with CT voters. He'll get his karmic political reward no matter what in November.
