Who can put a price tag on a life?
No one.
But everyday, in this country of inalienable rights, we in effect place a value on life, by allowing, and even supporting, abortion.
"For You created my inmost being; You knit me together in my mother's womb. I praise You because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Your works are wonderful, I know that full well. My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place. When I was woven together in the depths of the earth, Your eyes saw my unformed body." ~Psalm 139:13-16a, NIV
This beautiful picture painted in the Psalms, reveals a loving, precise Creator, not stamping out cookie-cutter lives on a huge assembly line, but One who carefully and skillfully hand-makes each life.
We are "fearfully and wonderfully made" by God Almighty. We are His handiwork. He knew us as a person--as a life--before we ever made an appearance on earth.
In Genesis 2:7, God's Word says: "The LORD God formed the man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being." (NIV)
If the LORD God is the One who breathes life into us, who are we to take it away?
Human beings have a tendency to put degrees on everything. Our actions reveal that some lives are more valuable than others.
God isn't like that. All life is a gift from God. When we refuse to acknowledge life as a gift, we sin against the Giver.
My words may never affect the change I would like to see in our current laws on abortion. But that does not negate my responsibility to continue to speak out against it.
Father God--I continue to pray for these lives that are so precious to You--lives You made with Your loving hands. I pray for laws to be enacted that protect the rights of these unborn children that You created. I pray especially, Lord, for mothers who are facing decisions of life and death. Help them choose life over death. In Jesus' name I pray, Amen.
