Butterflies, heaven and a stranger

by Mata H at 7:54pm Fri, 29 Aug 2008 under Religion & Spirituality, Heaven, butterflies
I've had out-of-town company for the past few days. On one outing we went to Magic Wings a butterfly conservatory. This is like a botanical garden to which 4,000 butterflies of all colors have been added. Adults and children walk around in wonder as beautiful butterflies land on beautiful flowers. The world is at peace there. Nature is in blissful harmony.

Giving Your Kids Hands-On Experience With Money

The subject of kids' allowances is a hot topic in the momosphere, as confused parents try to figure out the best way to teach their children responsible money management.  Most people would agree that hands-on experience is best, of course, but how do you navigate confusing chore charts?  Should you tie chores to payment, or are chores just part of being in the family?  And how do you know how much to pay them?

Will John McCain's VP be Alaska Governor Sarah Palin??

by PunditMom at 8:15am Fri, 29 Aug 2008 under Politics & News, Election 2008, John McCain
It's been reported this morning that neither Tim Pawlenty nor Mitt Romney, two of the rumored John McCain VP choices, will be going to Dayton today for McCain's announcement. For a while, I've been saying that McCain would be wise to choose Alaska Governor Sarah Palin -- a pro-life candidate and mother of two teen girls. A report this morning is saying that a small plane from Alaska landed this morning at an airport near Cincinnati whose passengers included a woman with two teen-agers and that there was much secrecy about the passengers. Wonder if I called it?

Big Tent Panel: Cracks In the Glass Ceiling

by Erin Kotecki Vest at 7:02am Fri, 29 Aug 2008 under Politics & News, Election 2008, CONVENTIONS, DEMOCRATS
I had the pleasure today of speaking on a panel here in the Big Tent with some fabulous women. Marie Wilson of the White House Project, Lisa Witter, author of the She Spot, fellow BlogHer Sarah Granger and Jehmu Greene of WomenCount. We had a fantastic discussion about Clinton, Obama, women voters, and feminism. After all was said and done, the women were kind enough to answer a few of my questions off stage.

by Kalyn Denny at 10:57pm Thu, 28 Aug 2008 under Food & Drink, Omnivore's Hundred, Vegan Hundred
Everyone loves lists, and currently food bloggers around the world are rushing to post one. Bloggers by the droves are talking about The Omnivore's Hundred, a meme created by Andrew at Very Good Taste which suggests 100 foods every omnivore should try. And now there's a Vegan Hundred too, created by Hannah from Bittersweet.

The extent of my romantic ineptitude cannot possibly be overstated.

by Liz Rizzo at 8:04pm Thu, 28 Aug 2008 under Sex & Relationships
I've been in Los Angeles for six years now (yes, counting the years represents a total fail on a New Year's Resolution), and in that time I honestly believe that I have made almost entirely poor romantic decisions. I mean, six years of almost total fail.I didn't listen to friend's good advice when I was too naive to know better. More recently, I listened to friend's bad advice when I knew myself and the situation better.

DNC: Democratic Blue Turns Green in Denver

Janna Six from the Alliance for Sustainable Colorado shared with us some of the efforts to make the DNC (and The Big Tent) the greenest convention ever. From compostable flatware and smoothie cups to businessmen on bikes and an army of volunteers, the DNC benefited from an array of clever efforts to not just green the conference but to plant seeds for the future. Now to see if the RNC follows... Stay tuned!
