Listen Up Cubs Fans - Lou Piniella's Message
by Mandasays17

Lou Piniella had a message this morning and said it again today when interviewed after the Cubs won the NL Central with a win against the St. Louis Cardinals at Wrigley Field. He simply said to remain calm, to not focus on the past and the heartbreaks, but this 2008 team that just won the division. And to remind us there is a long road ahead but just let this team play baseball.

""It's not fair to put all the expectations of all the past failures
here and all the past successes here on the 2008 team," Piniella said.
"You let this team stand on its own merit and you let them do what they
can do as well as they can do and let them go as far as they can."

I've been saying all summer that I believe that focusing on negative will only be more negative. And for the first time in my life, I questioned whether us, as Cubs fans, have almost continued the curse ourselves, not the Billy Goat, the black cat or Bartman. I am just as much as fault.. I remember watching the game when Bartman went for the ball, and I immediately thought "oh no, here we go again" and the Cubs went on to lose that game - and the series.

But that's just it.. I let it get into my head, as I'm sure the Cubs players did themselves, as well as most of the Cubs fans out there.

But let's listen to Piniella... he's right. There is a long road ahead, and let's not focus on the heartbreaks of the past. Let's focus on the positives of this year and just enjoy this as it goes. The Cubs are a great team this year and proved it today with winning the division.

To me, right now, the glass is half full. Let's just enjoy watching baseball into October. :-)
