A little late to the party

I am so totally not a fan.
Oh, over the years, I've done my fair share (OK, so not recently) and I've tried everything from step aerobics to P90X and just about everything in between. I've done it because I knew I should...but I never loved it.
I'm just not that person who lives for the next workout and enjoys the sweat and tired muscles. I have always hated those kind of people - in an envious kind of way, of course. Why couldn't I love Yoga or Pilates or running?
Seriously! I hear Pilates is great....but I have absolutely no desire to do it. None. But I hear that it's a-m-a-z-i-n-g.
Now, I know I feel better after a workout...but that doesn't mean I enjoy it while I'm doing it.
And here's the kicker, the days of my half-assed commitment getting decent results are sadly over.
I'd love to know when that milestone slipped by. Where was the sign along the way warning me that the roller coaster of weight loss and fitness was about to get a lot harder??? I mean, I knew it was coming but it was always in that futuristic time of getting older and I wasn't there yet.
Or so I thought.
Well, HELLO! Older has arrived and I did not come prepared!
CRAP! CRAP! CRAP!
Here I am, turning 40 this year. I still have the extra 'bits' that need to go and now I have an uphill battle before me that will only continue to get more difficult as time goes by. It's time to stop procrastinating and do something about it, like it or not - and let's be honest, I probably won't like it.
So, this is my plan. I already take tennis lessons a couple of times a week but it's not enough. Oh, it's fun and I really enjoy it (who knew???) but tennis will not qualify as a workout until I get better and can play a singles match. That could take some serious time and, at the moment, I can't even serve well...or at all.
I need something else to add to the mix. So, what I've decided to do is the Couch to 5K program.
It's not a new program and I know many people who have already been there and done that. I realize that I'm a little late to the party on this one but at least I'm showing up. I have pulled out my iPod, dusted off it's poor neglected screen, and plugged it in to charge back into life. As soon as its ready to go, I will create the mother of all playlists to help stay motivated while running.
I am doing this and I'm actually putting it out there to have a bit of accountability.
I'm not saying I will love it and I'm definitely not saying I won't bitch about it.
There will be bitching.
But, I will do it. I want to do it. I NEED to do it.
It's a nine week program and I did week one, workout one this morning.
One down, 26 to go.
Better late than never, right?
