Living in Mexico: Lost in Translation - Potty training edition.

So, my daughter Lila and her cousins Bella and Brody all attend the same school in Los Cabos, Mexico.

Lila and Brody are two years old and are in the same class and get picked up at the same time each afternoon.

I'm not sure how preschool pick-up works in the States, but in Mexico -- it's slightly chaotic. You've got to get the kid, get the bag(s), catch up with the teacher, get the drawings and any notes for home -- it's nutso.

Now, Lila and Brody's teacher is amazingly sweet. She's one of the kindest people I've ever met and she is the perfect first teacher. I really like her. She loves her students. She has a special way about her, truly. Lila is a tough egg to crack, and her teacher got through to her by her second day of school. (This is unheard of.)  Lila loves her. She runs to her and hugs her. And, please recall that her teacher magically fixed the whole, "Lila-runs-away-from-me-as-soon-as-she-sees-me" thing that used to happen every.single.time I picked her up.

So, I'll set the scene:

Remember: we live in Mexico where English is not the first language of most. (Duh.) Neither is Mexican. It's Spanish. (I cannot STAND it when some people ask me if I "speak Mexican." REALLY? Drives me nuts. Another post for another day.)

So, Brody is in the process of being potty trained. He obviously goes to school with extra clothes just in case he has an accident.

I'm waiting for Lila and my sister-in-law, Bai, arrives to see that Brody is wearing his extra pants. So, she assumes that he's had an accident at school today.

Bai to the teacher: "Oh, no. He's in his other pants. Accidents?"

[Sweetest] Teacher [in all the world]: No! He pissed three times today! He did very well!

[I'm standing there waiting for Lila and listening to this exchange. Trying not to die.]

Bai to me: "Ky, didja hear that? Brody 'pissed' three times today." (SHE SAYS THAT WITH A STRAIGHT FACE.)

Teacher: "Yes he did! He pissed 3 times!"

(Because obviously, it's a very good thing that Brody has gone to the bathroom three times today! GO BRODY.)

Ah, yes.

Something got lost in the translation and that absolutely

I seriously have been laughing about this all afternoon.
