Looking Forward to 2014!

I know it's not New Year's Eve yet. I know I'm a little bit early according to popular practice, but I'm starting to think about New Year's Resolutions and Planning 2014.

Why? Because I'm a list maker, a working mother, a blogger, a business woman, a planner, a worrier, a doer and a thinker.  I know some of those don't fit with the rest, but it's who I am.

I begin thinking about New Year's Resolutions, because I'm looking at my calendar and trying to plan the next week and month of menus, blog posts, appointments and commitments.

What are we going to eat this week for supper? The menu planning working mother in me needs to know what the daily activities are, so I can know who is going to be home for supper and what time effort I'll be able to put into the meal.

What blog posts and newspaper columns am I going to write next month? The writer in me knows that I need to have some sort of editorial calendar to work from, so I keep on track. I need to create "assignments" with "deadlines" for myself, or the writing lags and falters.

The business woman in me is starting to think about performance evaluations, business direction, end of year inventory and new marketing programs. If those items alone don't get a person worked up in a frenzy of self study and wanting to eliminate bad habits, I'm not sure what might.

So, I start thinking about my goals and plans for 2014. I started making lists.

I have a list of goals for Apron Free Cooking.

-Revamp the widgets.
-Create posts to draw in a larger audience.
-Work on better photography.

I have a list for the grocery store.

-Bread, milk, eggs, snacks, yogurt, spaghetti, and ...?
-Dog food, cat food, Finch food, turtle food
-Clock radio, dry erase markers

(Am I the only one who's list for pet foods equals the list for people food?!)

I have a list of personal accomplishments I want to work on.

-Spend more time with friends.
-Exercise more - walking the dog and riding my bike.
-Spend more time with my husband, and treat him with all the honor and love he deserves.
-Help my daughter plan for a new baby!

And my mind keeps coming up with other lists that I need to make. There's the house remodeling, the vacation planning, the boat restoration, the book editing, and I know you can imagine the rest of it.

Maybe I am ahead of the crowd on my New Year's Resolutions, but I'm ok with that. I need to spend time thinking through the goals and challenges that face me. I need to evaluate where I'm going to spend my time and energy. I want to make sure that when I announce my resolutions, that I will have made the right choices and can accomplish the goals.

So, I'm thinking and planning and listing and resolving. And on New Year's Eve, I'll be ready to greet 2014 with a glass of wine and the sense that I know where I'm going!
