I have to admit that after 29 years of teaching elementary school, Halloween is not my favorite holiday, especially when it comes on a school day, in the middle of the week! However, I know lots of you love Halloween, and people everywhere love a good party, so if you're in charge of planning Halloween festivities this year, here's a roundup of Halloween ideas to help you celebrate. Then check back next Sunday when I'll share some incredible recipes for things to make from pumpkin when your Halloween celebrating is over!
One blogger that always bakes something interesting for every holiday is Nic at Baking Bites, and this year she really had a hit with her Spiderweb Tart, shown in the photo. Other Halloween ideas at Baking Bites include Vampire Cupcakes, Gingerbread Skeletons, and Candy Corn Cookies.
Anna at Cookie Madness is making Halloween Cookies, of course! Try her Halloween Monster Cookies or Black Cat Cookies on a Stick. Anna's daughter Fuzz loves Halloween and Anna's also got a great collection of Halloween Party Notes for others making Halloween plans that involve kids.
For a traditional Halloween activity, Simply Recipes shares great instructions for making Caramel Apples. (This is one Halloween thing I do love!)
At Halloween Alliance, they're counting down the days to Halloween with ideas for costumes, decorations, games, recipes, and even Halloween stories. The recipes here look pretty interesting, like this Brain Dip with Bone Breadsticks. Warning: If you're a Halloween fan, you could end up sending a lot of time on this site!
At Mental Floss, Miss Celliania has compiled a whole assortment of gruesome Halloween Party Food. Don't miss the Bloody Brain Cocktail or the Bleeding Human Heart Dessert! There is more Halloween food at FoodParty, where they're saying Hoo-rah for Halloween Food. Another site where you can find kid-friendly food for nearly every holiday is KidsKuisine, where the Halloween Food Archives are full of tasty offerings.
Trying to celebrate Halloween on a budget or with a bit environmental impact? Families.com has ideas for a frugal Halloween party, and at Simply Thrifty there are 50 Do-It-Yourself Halloween Ideas.
There's plenty of help on the net for Halloween parties for kids of any age. For families with a baby celebrating Halloween for the first time, Chief Family Officer has found some ideas for a Baby Halloween Party. Creativity Portal has Creative Ideas for a Kids Halloween Party, including Halloween Games and menu ideas. At Weary Parent, there's a great-sounding collection of Kids Halloween Party Recipes geared to slightly older kids.
Finally, getting ahead of the rest of us, How to Eat a Cupcake has already had her Halloween party, and she shares photos and some very ghoulish recipes, including body part punch!
Blogher Food Editor Kalyn Denny also blogs at Kalyn's Kitchen. She will be wearing a costume of some sort for the Halloween Day Parade with her third grade class, but she probably won't be doing anything more than passing out candy to trick-or-treaters on Halloween night.
