The Empty Nesters had the great pleasure of attending the wedding of a young woman we have known since she was in kindergarten. We've celebrated countless birthdays and holidays with our friends and their families and now we find ourselves at the next stage- the weddings. We sat outside under the setting Southern California sun, listening to the orchestra play Marry Me by Train as the wedding party made their way down the flower strewn aisle. We witnessed the proud parents and the bride and groom standing under the wedding canopy exchanging their vows and becoming husband and wife. Traditions were observed and we smiled and shed tears of joy. It seems just yesterday we stood there ourselves. Many years have passed since the Nesters were young brides. We've lived full lives, had careers, bought homes, raised children, cared for our families, struggled, achieved, laughed, cried and counted our blessings. We've learned from our experiences and continue to strive to make our good lives even better. The young couple has their whole lives in front of them. Their journey is yet uncharted. But on their wedding day, as they dance to their special song, they begin down their path together. And we older and experienced brides dance with our own Prince Charmings ( a special shout out to both "Mister Nesters" who still fit into their tuxedos of years gone by) knowing just what a splendored thing is love.
