Saturday Lunch, brought to you by Herbalife | Conversation With Lucy McBath & Keynote With Mayim Bialik

Lunch was brought to you by Herbalife. Dr. John Agwunobi, the Chief Health & Nutrition Officer for Herbalife, also spoke, sharing his tips on nutrition and living a healthy lifestyle.

Lucy McBath is a member of a club no one wants to join: The mother of a gun violence victim. Her son Jordan Davis, 17, was shot and killed at a gas station … for playing his music too loud while pumping gas. But Lucy has refused to let Jordan’s death overshadow his life, and she has committed herself to making sure fewer moms go through what she has gone through. Lucy has she has joined the Mother of the Movement, become the faith and outreach leader for Everytown for Gun Safety and is the national spokeswoman for Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America. Lucy sat down for a Q&A with BlogHer Co-Founder Jory Des Jardins to talk about the intersection of gun violence and race, turning loss into leadership, and how every attendee can answer her call to action to make a difference.

Mayim is an actress, author, advocate, web publisher, and neuroscientist. SheKnows Media's President, Samantha Skey, spoke with Mayim about why she started Grok Nation, an online community of self-proclaimed nerds who activate change. Which was more of a challenge: getting her Ph.D. in neuroscience, getting more kids interested in STEM topics earlier and more consistently, or dealing with the modern-times-resistant sexism of Hollywood? And, of course we had to hear more about The Big Bang Theory, and why she thinks an unlikely story of utter and total geeks has resonated with such a big mainstream audience.
