Mad Men Teams Up with Banana Republic
By AdrienneRoyer on June 28, 2011
For the first time, Banana Republic and Janie Bryant, the award-winning Mad Men stylist, teamed up to make a collection of fall clothes. You might think -- as I did at first -- that this wasn't such a big deal. After all, the past two seasons Mad Men and Banana Republic have teamed up.
When I went by the store in Chattanooga this weekend, a clerk corrected me. This is the first time that Banana Republic has released an exclusive collection in conjunction with the TV series. The clothes will even have a special Mad Men label! The collection will be released on August 11. According to the New York Times:
There will be 65 items in the so-called capsule collection, which are to carry co-branded labels bearing the logos of “Mad Men” and Banana Republic. The merchandise is to be priced the same as similar regular items sold in Banana Republic stores and on bananarepublic.com.
The clothing and accessories like suits, dresses, ties, sweaters, hats, skirts, coats and blouses are influenced by “Mad Men,” which takes place in the 1960s. But they are intended to reflect the sensibilities — and the fit requirements — of contemporary shopper.
The exciting thing is that Janie Bryant helped design these. Fashionista writes:
“Working with Janie [Bryant, Mad Men's costume designer] to gain a true understanding of the Mad Men look and feel was a delight,” Banana Republic Creative Director Simon Kneen said in a statement. “Janie was instrumental in helping us achieve the series aesthetic and standard of authenticity with this capsule collection.”
My readers will know how much I love Bryant's style. That sealed the deal. I absolutely must have some of these clothes. When I saw this navy houndstooth dress, I wanted to shout with glee. A Mad Men-designed dress by Janie Bryant + houndstooth? This is my dream come true!My other favorite is the grey suit with the cowl neck. That's perfect for work.
Check out the images below for more of the collection, and don't forget that it includes the guys. There's no reason for your man not to look dapper this fall!
