Make Homemade Snow (Cones)

Get in the winter spirit by whipping up a batch of its frosty foundation—snow! In the comfort of your very own kitchen, your child can make some snow, and then show support for her favorite country or athlete by adding a bit of colored flavoring. Not only will this patriotic project get her interested in the Olympic games, but it tastes yummy too! Kids of all ages will love the novelty of having a summertime treat in the middle of winter.

What You Need:

* 4 oz. sweetened Kool-Aid (or colored snow cone syrup)
* 3/4 cup hot water
* 1 cup cold water
* 2 cups ice cubes
* Small paper cups

What You Do:

1. Have your child mix the colored flavoring and hot water together to dissolve. Set aside and let it cool.
2. Ask her to place the ice cubes in a blender and add a little cold water. Blend until the ice is finely crushed, adding more water if needed.
3. Invite your child to scoop out the crushed ice and place it in a cup.
4. Have her drizzle some of the cooled colored mixture over ice.

The chilly confection is ready to enjoy! Eat quickly, before it melts!
