Make new friends but keep the old
By I Eat Pop Tarts on December 03, 2012
I’m doing a December photography challenge. I started it because it seemed like it would be entertaining, what I didn’t expect is that it would also be eye-opening.
Today was post a picture of your BFF day. As I was scrolling through my pictures for the perfect ones to post, it got me thinking.
I’m pretty stinkin’ lucky.
Not only do I have great friends who I can call my BFF, I also have a lot of friends. Some old, some new, some in between. Neither are more important than the next, they are just in my life at different times, for different reasons.
I’ve recently had the opportunity to open up my life and have some new people walk into it. It’s one of the best perks for having two paying jobs. I mostly got the jobs because it balanced out the jobs I wasn’t getting paid for (I’m talkin’ about you, PTA President/s job!) and they offered me the luxury of attending concerts without having to beg my wife for the money to go.
What I wasn’t expecting was the people who I have met along the way.
I had forgotten how nice it is to have new perspective come into your life. Not that the new people could ever replace those tried and true friendships, but I do enjoy talking about new things and seeing things from a different view-point. When an old friend, a wife or a sibling, tells you that you can do something, you believe it deep down in your soul because you trust them implicitly. But, they also have to tell you how great/wonderful you are or they look like assholes…When a new person tells the same thing, it gives you a boost of confidence. They don’t have to tell you and if they are telling you it’s because they believe it. In other words, they don’t have to worry as much about hurting your feelings or keeping peace. They have the freedom to just blurt it out.
And luckily for me, they have been blurting out nice things about this blog and my ability to wrangle first graders.
These new people have brought a lot of positivity and confidence to my world and for that I am very grateful.
