Eating potato salad on the Fourth of July is a tradition for families all over America. In my own family, my sister Sandee's potato salad is legendary, and every summer people request that she make it when the family gets together. Even though people have their own ideas about potato salad, the variations are infinite. For the holiday coming up next week, food bloggers are giving us some creative potato salad ideas.
Let's start with the Patriotic Potato Salad at Food Blogga, where Susan has used white, red-skinned, and All-blue potatoes to make a salad that's really perfect for the Fourth of July.
Rachel at Fresh Approach Cooking created Roasted Potato Salad when she needed a party dish and realized her hostess was not a fan of cucumbers. Another warm potato salad I think sounds great is the Warm Roasted Fennel and Potato Salad from Daily Unadventures in Cooking.
Potato salad can be a nightmare for people with food allergies, but the Champagne Vinegar Potato Salad from Karina's Kitchen not only looks delicious, but it's gluten-free, soy-free, egg-free, and dairy-free. For a slightly different take on an allergy friendly potato salad, try Karina's Horseradish Spiked Red Potato Salad.
Kristen at The Kitchen Sink is not usually a fan of potato salad, but she has second thoughts when she uses Greek yogurt and yukon gold potatoes to make Creamy Potato Salad with Chives and Peas. Other potato salads using yogurt include the Yogurt and Herb Two Potato Salad from Rachel at Coconut and Lime and Potato Salad with Labneh and Herbs at The Backyard Pizzeria.
Sue Bette at Feel Good Eats says she likes recipes that are a little off beat, and I guess I do too because her recipe for Potato Salad with Tuna looks fantastic to me.
Finally, if you want to spice up your holiday, try the Jalapeno Potato Salad from White Trash Barbecue.
(If none of these potato salads are what you're looking for, you can find endless more potato salad variations from food bloggers by looking for potato salad recipes at Food Blog Search.)
Blogher Food and Drink contributing editor Kalyn Denny also blogs at Kalyn's Kitchen, where she never cooks potatoes, but does make a lot of salads with tomatoes and cilantro.

Scary!
I've wanted to make potato salad for awhile now but I'm a big chicken. But some of these look so delicious that I think I'm going to bite the big one (potato) and just do it for the 4th.
Here's hoping.

Happy potato salad making!
Do come back and tell us which one you tried and how it turned out!

Yum.
I love potato salad. The Greek yogurt potato salad sounds delicious, and I think I'll give it a try. Hopefully it will turn out better than what I've previously made. I have always wondered why nobody ate any of my potato salads. =|
Good luck!
I do love Greek yogurt, which is why I thought it sounded like such a good potato salad recipe. Hope it will be a winner for you.

Picky, picky, picky!
You said people have their own ideas about potato salad. So true. I'd venture even that people have specific ideas about what makes a potato salad good because I've heard discussions about who makes a "good" potato salad and who does not with critiques as detailed as those on Iron Chef. It's so subjective.
I tend to compare traditional potato salad to my grandmother's. If it doesn't taste close to that I think something's wrong with it. But I have had potato salad made from recipes like the ones you have here and liked them also. I get a little intimidated about making potato salad because there are folks in my family who will talk about you if you turn out a bad one, and I mean talk about you baaad. :-)

I do know just what you mean!
No one in my family would ever dare bring potato salad to a family event, because people would compare it to my sister Sandee's famous potato salad. Her version has russet potatoes (NOT overcooked), boiled eggs, Miracle Whip (which I hate, but I like her potato salad), yellow mustard, salt, and pepper. Nothing else, although when I used to make it I would add celery seed because that's how my mom made it.
Nowdays I rarely even eat potatoes, but it was definitely fun finding some recent potato salad posts that looked good to me.

My Great Gramma made the
My Great Gramma made the potato salad.(tearin' up) The recipe was all from memory, but not a secret. People try but no one has come close.
Today is my daughters birthday, and when she was born my Great Gramma was in the hospital very sick. She passed away shortly after. It has been two years- how something as simple as potato salad can bring back great memories of a GREAT woman. Thank you!

What a lovely memory
I think it's sweet that potato salad made you have good memories of your great Grandma. Personally, I think the way food is so infused with memories is one thing that makes it so comforting.
For me, it's my Grandma Goodfellow making homemade noodles and my Grandma Denny making baked butternut squash. I always think of them whenever I think about those foods.

I like to put green beans into potato salad
I think that I make the best potato salad in the world. (Yes I know; I'm just begging to be shot down here) I suppose that some people would say it isn't strictly potato salad, as it has Moroccan sun-dried olives, green beans, radishes, red onion, English cucumber as well as the potatoes (new red potatoes). The radishes and cucumber are optional but the red onion, green beans and olives are obligatory.
And trust me. It's great potato salad. In fact, I think I'll take your advice, Kalyn and make it for the 4th of July - even though I'm Canadian. I might even have the gall to bring it to your family gathering and run the risk of comparison to your sister Sandee's salad. ;-)

Come on down!
We'll be camping in the mountains of Wyoming though, so I better send you a map. I do have to warn you that most of my family are quite the traditionalists when it comes to food.
Your salad looks great to me though, and much more South Beach Diet friendly than most potato salads!

Potato salad is comfort food!
Thanks for including my potato salads in your delicious recipe round-up for the Fourth. I could eat potato salad several times a week. I love it warm, especially- pure comfort food.
Every family has their potato salad preferences- no doubt! I'm not a mayo fan, so potato salads with tons of mayo are a turn-off. I'm a salt and vinegar girl (with potato chips, and fries too!).
Have a Happy Fourth- Wyoming is beautiful!

Your salads look great
I do like mayo, but your salads with oil and vinegar are a lot better for my diet, and did you know that red-skinned potatoes are lot lower on the glycemic index than other types!
