[Editor's Note: I really thought it was just me... that I was the only local pool hating mom in the world. Turns out I'm not. This post at Crazy for Trying had me laughing and nodding and laughing again. If you've ever cringed when your kid has asked to go to the pool, this post is for you. But, really, when do they learn to NOT grab for your bathing suit strap? -Jenna]

Mama, Can We Go to the Pool?:

City Pool 1I love that question. I dread that question.

Yes, I would love to go to the pool.

But please, children, eat something beforehand. Because I know at the end of the day you’re going to be tired and hungry. And then you’ll be cranky. No, make that CRANKY. To the point where you’re sitting on the steps of the pool and someone splashes you and you get water in your eyes and then when you try and brush it out the sunscreen gets smeared in there too and your eyes will be irritated and fortheloveofgodstopcrying.

Continue reading for some nod-incuding laughs about a day at the pool.

It's the pool aftermath that kills me... towels, wet clothes... why can't they hang up their towels???

I have to force Charlie to go to the pool. I'm not much of a swimmer but want him to be comfortable in the water for safety if nothing else.

Not a lot of little kids in our area who aren't in daycare all day so there aren't built in "friends" for Charlie which means I have to entertain him in the water.

Toss in crappy pool hours, 3-8pm, me working until noon, using my dad's subdivision pool because of an argumement with our HOA and I'm much happier with the sprinkler and slip-n-slide in the backyard too. Or the Sprayground park about a 5 min drive away.

I bet you look just great in a swimsuit. I wish you felt confident about that part.

The germy pool stew icks me out too though.

I hate going to the pool but that's because I can't stand how I look in a bathing suit. Selfish I know. And I know my daughter is not a strong swimmer and in a sea of rambunctious children, it's tough to watch her and still socialize with other Moms. And there's just that - the mass of people. Oh, the germs that lurk! I'll take the backyard sprinkler anytime!
