I grew up in a home with a very creative grandmother who could put together homemade meals in a snap. I was blessed with her infectious love for cooking but somehow the whole instant creative meal planning gene double skipped passed me. Don’t get me wrong, I absolutely love thinking up and putting together homemade meals for my family but with a new baby and a ton of other things I have going on, creative meal planning has taken a backseat these days....more
These caramel apple turnovers are a perfect use for the Marzetti old fashioned caramel dip. Apples and caramel go so well together, and when you combine them with flaky puff pastry and a little bit of cinnamon, you've got a treat that is sure to be a hit with anyone who tries it. I never would have thought to use actual caramel dip in a recipe like this, but it worked perfectly....more
I have to admit, I was in a little bit of a dinner rut for a while. I seemed to be making the same things over and over again. I knew it, and my family knew it. But I have since come across something amazing, and I'm sure you won't believe me if I tell you it's been 100% effective in getting me out of my dinner doldrums. Do you want in on my secret? Okay, it's not really a "secret" at all.......more
A lot of people do their grocery shopping each day for the meal they are having that evening. That isn't really feasible for us right now. So I do have to somewhat brainstorm when I do make a trip to the grocery store. I've actually learned you can make a lot with staples. If I have fruit, veggies, pasta, lettuce and noodles, I can come up with something...or ask my mom! She has always been one to come up with something from what seems like nothing....more
I love trying new recipes and I'm always looking for meals that my girls will enjoy. Instead of choosing just one recipe, I decided to try three and have a yummy fall meal with the family. Let me tell you, there were so many recipes to choose from and the three I made were all super yummy....more

Every day about 2 o'clock I start to think about dinner. Now you have to realize I said "think" about dinner. In our home, my husband makes most of our meals. He really enjoys cooking, and I am content to do the baking. But there are those days that I wonder what I could do for dinner to help out. I think and think and most of the time just come up with one of our usual meals. There are only so many pots of spaghetti and plates of salad one can consume before being bored with that meal....more
I am always looking for something fresh, something crunchy, something colorful in every meal I eat. But as much as I love to throw together a salad as a main entrée or a smaller side, sometimes I get bored with trying to come up with something new. Especially when it comes to serving green salads to the rest of my family. It definitely takes a little crafty creativity to get my husband and kids on board for lettuce salads. But I kinda like the challenge....more
Sweet potatoes have been a part of our family's Thanksgiving menu for as long as I can remember...and for all but a few of those years, I have refused to eat them! I don't know why...I've just never been a fan. But about 5 years ago my sister-in-law Denise started bringing a sweet potato side dish to our Thanksgiving dinner that finally won me over!...more
By now you know that I am a serious planner and organizer. I plan all of my meals for the week before I head to the grocery store, including recipes that will show up here at Lemon Sugar. While I'm always eager to share my new ideas with all of you, sometimes it's much harder to plan meals for my family. I'm always fighting the urge to stick to my tried-and-true rotation of 6-8 dinner options, mostly because they work for us and our schedule....more
