I have oily skin, which is a mixed blessing.  At 40, I have very very few wrinkles (all that oil apparently helps prevent them) but by 3:00 pm most days, I'm mopping up a slick that could solve the energy crisis (forget drilling in ANWR!  I've got your oil RIGHT HERE).  I'm constantly looking for ways to tame the shine and keep my face looking matte and fresh without caking on a lot of extra gunk.  Blotting papers are great, except they don't do anything to hide the wee flaws that only I can see.  I need a little coverage and a lot of absorption.  Is that too much to ask?

Not from the fine folks at Maybelline.

Maybelline Stay Free Oil Control powderI'm a HUGE fan of Maybelline's Shine-Free Oil Control translucent pressed powder.  I read about this powder in Real Simple, perhaps two (three?) years ago; they were hacking the best drugstore beauty products and their testers swore by this stuff. At the time, I was using a combination of Department Store powders which were costing me a fortune AND leaving me shiny by noon.  The spin on the Maybelline powder was that for under $8.00, it worked just as well -- if not better -- than the department store varieties (some of which cost upwards of three times as much).  I grabbed one on my daily weekly trip to Target and fell in love.

Maybelline's Shine-Free pressed powder is light and won't cake on even the greasiest face (eew, I know, but important to say). I apply it to my T-zone with a big fluffy brush after my sunscreen or foundation; I reapply as needed during the day with a cotton ball (I don't use the puff that comes with the compact, because I have issues with germs and prefer to toss the cotton ball after I use it --- BUT the puff is lovely and soft and well-constructed).  I use the lightest shade, which is perfect on my very fair skin; the coverage is even and subtle and natural looking.  Most days, I wear a little concealer and this powder over my tinted sunscreen, and I'm good to go.

I like this formula both because it does help reduce the oil on my face and because it does so without caking or cracking or getting sticky (if you have oily skin, you know what I mean).  And you can use it as liberally as you want because at this price (Drugstore.com lists it at $5.59) you can buy one for your makeup bag AND another for your purse.

Can't wait to try Maybelline pressed powder.  I've been brand loyal to a different one for years but I think it's time to shake it up a bit.  This one is priced really well too!

Thanks for mentioning my Botox article (ah em, rant), in your post!
