Hillary wins the off-limits Florida primary, and claims victory at a party carried by all the news networks because nothing else was happening at the time she won. Good press for her, and I imagine she'll argue that the delegates in that state and Michigan should be seated for her, as she's hinted at. This is why I wish the candidates had defied the DNC and campaigned, because this end-around business, through which both Obama and Hillary ignore the voters of these states but the delegates are still seated, is the worst of both worlds.
McCain pulls out Florida, notably a closed primary in which only registered Democrats and Republicans could vote. McCain won with Republicans, without the help of Independents and others allowed to vote in N.H. and Iowa and S.C. Where did the support come from? A couple places. First, of course core conservatives have problems with him. That's no secret, but a fair number of committed regular Republicans (maybe not movement conservatives) think McCain is a respectable man who should lead us on national security issues. A lot of Floridian seniors went to McCain. Floridian veterans went for McCain. McCain has also worn the "winner" mantle since South Carolina, and that matters to voters. They like to vote for a winner, and never underestimate the impact of the polls that say McCain's a good match-up for Hillary. And finally, 40 percent of voters said Florida Gov. Charlie Crist's endorsement of McCain was important to them. More than 50 percent of those voters went for McCain.
Mitt will move on to Super Tuesday, and he has the money to play, but I'm not sure he can overcome McCain's momentum at this point. There are a lot of states in play, and much of the press will be about McCain's newfound "viablity" among conservatives. If Giuliani endorses McCain, as expected, that's a ton more press for him and a bunch of voters who had backed Rudy. An amazing comeback story for McCain and one that the media will gravitate to.
What happens now? A "national primary," of sorts in 22 states on Super Tuesday, for both parties. Who would have thunk it? There will be some pretty tremendous infighting in both parties. Hold onto your hats, folks.

I'm not all that surprised
I'm not all that surprised that McCain won out for the Republicans. He just doesn't seem that conservative to me. In fact, I'd classify him as Hillary Lite.
Excitment in the air!
Out of all elections I can remember, this is by far the most exciting! Maybe because I am a woman, and am excited at the fact that a Woman is running and has a chance of winning for the first time in history, or maybe because Im older now and understand politics more than ever. I find myself addicted to checking cnn.com for updates and daily news surrounding the issues at hand. I do believe that from her past experience Hillary Clinton would be the best person to take office!
