McCain's Offensive Scoffing at Medical Errors

Last night John McCain offended me to the core in his Town Hall debate against Barack Obama. While discussing health care issues, McCain scoffed at "medical errors" and even used air quotes when he said the term. His platform addresses his plan for reducing "frivolous" medical malpractice law suits. From his flippant attitude about medical errors last night, it's clear to me that he will make sure that the term "frivolous" is defined with the doctors in mind and with little concern for patients.

After nearly a decade of severe digestive ailments and countless medical tests, doctors finally discovered last year that a malignant tumor had been growing on my pancreas the whole time. One doctor had even seen the mass nearly three years prior to my diagnosis but neglected to tell me about it or conduct any follow up tests down the road. I consider that an egregious "medical error," but I wonder what McCain would think. It was made immediately clear to me, that he continues to have the best interest of his donors in mind rather than the best interest of the average American citizen. To quote Joe Biden: "That's not change. That's more of the same."

Conversely, Barack Obama shared a story of how his mother had to fight with insurance companies during the final months of her battle with cancer, because they didn't want to cover her "pre-existing" condition. I have no doubt in my mind that Obama feels the same frustration of negotiating his and his family's way through our broken-down health system, that I do. I need someone who can empathize with me for president, so that when making policy decisions, he can do right by and for me and every other citizen -- not just suck up to his lobbyist groups so that his party can continue to get reelected.

You're right. It does come down to judgement. And state of mind. Honestly, I'm not trying to be cruel when I say this, but I was terrified when McCain addressed the audience as "my fellow prisoners" yesterday. I would never wish the horrors that happened to him on anyone, but how does a slip up like that occur? Is it because the campaign is getting so tough that he's stressed out and slipping? I think I'm actually still in shock of that one. I feel for him. I just don't trust him to be the final say on decisions for me or my country.

It seems to continually come down to JUDGMENT on John McCain. I, too, cringed at that bit of his....   What is he thinking?!!

(Speaking of judgment issues, why is there not a bigger deal about one particular quote from McCain's book, where he confesses to making very fast decisions, trying to be faster "than the other guy," and sometimes regretting it, but being willing to pay for it later (I paraphrase, but it's pretty damn close) ? Do we want a president like that? I know I don't.

Knowing, too, that Obama has been down the road of impossible dealings with insurance companies over "pre-existing conditions" etc certainly makes it clear that he knows what many of us "out here" are dealing with on a daily basis.

'Nuff said. (Although I'm sure I won't stop here.)
