Meal Plan Monday, August 13

Now that we've been back from BlogHer '12 for more than I week I have no reason to avoid posting my meal plan. I actually did make one last week but it never quite made it out of my notebook and into my computer. Because y'all know that I have a notebook just for meal plans, right? The plan goes on the left-hand side of the page and the grocery list goes on the right-hand side. The notebook gets tossed in my bag when we go grocery shopping and we rarely forget to buy the things we need. Easy-peasy.

We're still trying to figure out the best way to display the mean plan in the house. I'm leaning toward a chalkboard but I haven't figured out where it should go. For now the fake husband just comes here to look at the meal plan because it's his job to pull things out of the freezer if we need them.

Monday: I have a craving for Indian food (something the fake husband will never object to) so we're making chana masala, aloo gobi and rice. We picked up some pakoras at the store so we'll have those for nibbles. This is our first time making aloo gobi, so that should be interesting. Our former downstairs neighbour gave us his recipe for chana masala that's "just like his mamma used to make" but I haven't been able to find it since we moved into the house. I might try to dig in my loose recipes later (I jotted it down on a scrap piece of paper while talking to him on the phone). Or wing it. I remember the essentials.

Tuesday: Using Monday's leftovers to make veg biryani, which makes the fake husband very happy because he loves biryani. He'd probably be happier if I was making chicken biryani but he'll survive. I expect there will be some pakoras left as well. If not we might pull some parathas out of the freezer.

Wednesday: Steaks, sweet potato oven fries and asian slaw with ginger peanut dressing.

Thursday: It's just me at home. I don't think we'll have leftovers (except of the slaw) so I might make a quick pasta dish. This simple spaghetti from Leite's Culinaria and a small salad would be a quick dinner.

Friday: We'll be going out for dinner.

Saturday: Chicken drumsticks -- perhaps these Ethiopian style ones from Simply Recipes -- and potato salad.

Sunday: Thai ground turkey salad. The recipe actually calls for pork but we're going to try it with turkey. The recipe we use is similar to this Thai ground pork salad from A Farm Girl Dabbles but ours is topped with shredded carrots and red onions.
