Last week I generally did better than the week before but it wasn't without its changes. Saturday night we ended up hosting a dinner for a friend who is moving out of the city and that called for a homemade lasagna. Sunday we hosted Football Sunday which meant providing snacks for three extra men...only one of whom showed up. (To be fair we were fairly sure that one of them couldn't come, the other was a surprise drop-out the morning of.) Since he did show up and he helped install the the garage door opener I made him his very own batch of bread and butter jalapenos. He left a happy man. However we had a lot of leftover football snacks which we snacked on. And snacked on some more. No dinner was required. Added bonus: while the guys were watching football I got to watch the latest version of Emma from the BBC courtesy of my local library.
Here's how my week is looking:
Monday - Melissa's cabbage roll casserole. I love cabbage rolls but I hate making them so this was perfect for us. It's also the reason I'm posting so late tonight. I wanted to make it to see how many leftovers we'd have. The answer? A lot. Thankfully they are yummy.
Tuesday - Raid The Fridge Day. Our fridge is simply overflowing and it was before making the casserole tonight. We'll dine on leftovers and fresh veggies.
Wednesday - Roast sticky chicken. Because we were hosting Football Sunday I knew there was no way we'd be doing the scheduled roast chicken dinner. I'm thinking parsnips and mashed potatoes on the side.
Thursday - It's just me home for dinner. Maybe I'll finally get around to making that tomato soup I keep saying I'm going to make. Or maybe it will chicken sandwiches with the leftovers.
Friday - Sub night! With the dinner question handled for that night the real question is whether or not we'll try to see Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1 that night. I'm thinking we'll hold off for a morning viewing the next day.
Saturday - Our friend is making us ribs. Yay ribs! We'll be picking up a few sides.
Sunday - Beef stroganoff. Has anyone seen the animated film Anastasia? I cannot think of stroganoff without "I do not care for stroganoff. She said that like a Romanov!" going through my head. I haven't decided what recipe I'm going to use yet. Any favorites?
Extras: I'm thinking about playing with some pickled carrots on Saturday, I'm probably going to use Molly Wizenberg's recipe (aka Orangette) from A Homemade Life.
I also need to start planning holiday baking, at least the stuff that can be made and then frozen. Although if I make and then freeze chocolate peanut butter balls we'll probably just raid the freezer for them for the next month. They are yummy frozen.
What's on your plate this week?
