Meal Plan Monday, October 4

It's Monday again which means I need to start thinking about what we're going to have to eat this week. Before I do that let's look at how we did last week.

We did pretty good, overall. We made some minor changes. On Wednesday rather than make rice we ate leftover mac n' cheese with our pork chops. (The butternut squash mac n' cheese was yummy and we'll be making that again.) On Thursday the fake husband had to buy some East Coast donair kits for his card night and we picked up an extra one for me. Sunday night's dinner ended up being a frozen pizza rather than the planned osso buco because I ended up running (well, running/walking) the 5km Run for the Cure instead of walking it and I just wasn't up for doing much cooking. (All I have to say about that is - ow!) All in all, not too bad.

Saturday night was also the first night I used our gas bbq by myself. I didn't grow up with a bbq and I've never owned one before so it's kind of uncharted territory for me. I think the beef ribs could have been cooked a little lower and slower but the rub was tasty and we'll be using it again.

This week is not a typical one for us. The fake husband had a work dinner on Tuesday and on Thursday morning I'm hopping on a plane to San Francisco for BlogHer Food. So our meal plan this week is just Monday - Wednesday. I won't plan for the fake husband while I'm out of town but I've made him promise to eat something besides pepperoni pizza. I've suggested he make himself a meatloaf because he loves it and I'm not very fond of it. It's also Canadian Thanksgiving on Monday, October 11 but many people cook a big dinner on the weekend so I expect he'll be eating turkey at some point while I'm gone.

So this is our week:

Monday - osso buco and orzo risotto

Tuesday - carrot soup (which I was supposed to have last Thursday)

Wednesday - Steaks, mashed potatoes and roasted carrots

What are you making this week? How did you do with last week's meal plan?
