MeeMaw And PopPop's Great Adventure
By KarenLynnn on December 06, 2012
Now we are down to one more sleep before we pass the babysitting baton over to Oma Debi. I wrote this last Wednesday, before the kids came to stay for 9 days.
My daughter and her hubby are leaving for Tortola on Friday. They are getting the heck out of this Wisconsin winter and going to bask in the warm sunshine at my uncle's place on the side of a mountain in the BVI. This is a much needed vacation for them, they've been so busy the last three years. Daughter was pregnant 2 of those 3 years and we have 2 beautiful grandsons who keep her and their daddy really busy.
So when they asked if we'd keep the babies if Uncle Richard had an opening for them at his place, how could I say no? I'm not sure how my daughter has gotten through these last few years. I go over to her house a few days a week for a few hours to give her some relief to do fun things like shower and start supper or go buy diapers. But that's just a few hours a few times a week. How does she do it 24/7? She's got my respect and admiration, that's for sure. Especially after doing it for the last week!
The last three months, daughter joined a gym and worked really hard and got her pre-baby body back so she could wear a bikini. (she's lost 20 pounds in 12 weeks!) I think it really lifts her spirits to get out and meet people and it also gives the kids a chance to socialize in the gym daycare a few times a week. But it seriously cut into Meemaw time. That's ok though. I've learned that life is a series of "letting go's" with my children. And also, being a mom never ever ends! And motherhood just get's better and better each year.
Tomorrow night, the boys are coming. Our house is laid out weird, it's a ranch with an open basement. We've got 2 bedrooms on the first floor, at opposite ends of the house which is awesome when we have company. Our guests get their own wing! There are also two bedrooms in our basement (which really isn't a basement, it's a walkout). This floor plan definitely would not work for raising a family! One of the downstairs bedrooms is right under the master bedroom and you can hear everything that is going on down there. Putting Gavin in the east wing meant that every time we let the dogs out before we went to bed, made him wake up. HA!
The babies have slept here before. The oldest slept in my closet on his little cot snuggled up in his froggy sleeping bag. That works fine on the weekends, but it isn't going to work when Michael has to get up and go to work! Which means he has to go into the closet to get dressed. And would mean the 2 year old would start the day at 5 am. That ain't gonna work! So mom and dad decided that the boys could share a room and they will sleep in the east wing. (too far away). But we will give it a try, and if it doesn't work, Quinn can sleep in the closet until Monday night, and then we will just move back into their house for the last few nights until Oma comes to relieve us next Friday. We did not move back to their house, PopPop dresses for work in the laundry room in the mornings, and we didn't attempt rooming the babies together. Quinn's room has been the closet all week.
I'm more nervous about the sleeping arrangements than the waking hours. The boys are fun and I love hanging out with them. We've got a big back yard for them to play in, if it is warm enough. I also bought a special few new construction trucks and puzzles and books for them to play with while they are here. Christmas came early at our house!
So everything has gone fairly smoothly. Michael has been super PopPop and helping me so much. I didn't break down and call the babysitter until last night after a long long day. I decided they needed the play time and I needed the break. And finally, I get to post last weeks blog!
