Laurel Regan

Laurel Regan blogs about life as she lives it at Alphabet Salad - "an eclectic assortment of rants & ramblings."

Laurel is a writer, tangler, learner of French and Italian, crocheter, cat herder, needle felter, iPhoneographer, Growlita, iFan, on-and-off politics junkie, 80s music trivia freak, and ongoing work in progress who is rather taken with the phrase "professional dilettante" as a substitute for "random and scattered."

She is originally from Victoria, BC but now lives in Windsor, Ontario (that's in Canada!) with her husband and three (yes, three!) beautiful cats.

Photo Friday: Black and White

There were several pictures I could have used for today's Photo Friday "Black and White" prompt - after all, we are blessed with two gorgeous black and white cats (who happen to be VERY photogenic)! In the end, though, I decided to go a different route and share bit of whimsical poetry, created using a cat-themed (can't get away from the cats!) fridge magnet set we received from some dear friends when we visited Victoria over the holidays. ...more

236 Things That Make Me Happy

For several years now I've maintained my own personal Happy List, first to acknowledge and affirm and then to remind myself of life's beauty, richness, and blessings. I hope that by sharing some of the items on my list I will inspire you to slow down for a few minutes and think about the things in your life that bring you joy and contentment... and perhaps even create and maintain a "Happy List" of your own! ...more

Photo Friday: Sunlight

I know I've shared this photo before, but hopefully there are at least a few of you who haven't seen it yet - as when I learned that today's Photo Friday prompt was "Sunlight" I knew this was the picture I wanted to share! It's a favourite of mine, made even more so by the fact that I almost missed capturing it. Peter and I were sitting on a bench in the park, and he pointed out how beautiful the sunlight looked at that particular moment. ...more

Words have Power

Some more reminiscing... In the long-ago summer of 1986 I was 19 years young, had just squeaked through my first year of university, and was back in what I considered to be my hometown to look for a job. ...more

Beauty in the Eye of the Beholder

Reminiscing... It all started with four simple words from the soft-spoken young cashier at the grocery store as she rang through the eclectic assortment of foodstuffs I'd chosen to carry my husband and I through a quiet New Year's Eve at home. "I like your hair," she said shyly. ...more
