American Nuns vs. the Vatican (my money is on the sisters)

My head and heart have been reeling about the news that has been circulating about the Vatican's recent crack down on American nuns. I was hoping that if I went to bed and woke up the next morning that I'd realize the whole thing was just an unfortunate nightmare.  Alas, that is simply not the case.  Such a nightmare would have been a blessing compared to reality.  Read more >

Mother's Day Theology

Mother’s Day, it seems, has become a sacred festival.  Not many churches across our country fail at least to mention mothers on “their day”, which is this Sunday.  Many churches have mothers and motherhood as the theme of worship and the sermon. Odes to Mom are shared.  Special music is played, often accompanying a slide show of pictures that make everyone cry.  And Proverbs 31 is read – at least verses 28-29 that mention a mother’s children and husband praising her.  Read more >

Junior Seau: How Far is Too Far

Junior Seau by aphid00 via Flickr

I don't have anything brilliant to say. As a matter of fact I'm relatively speechless. I just saw on ESPN a brief clip of Junior Seau's funeral, followed by a discussion on concussions in the NFL. My phone rang.  On the other line was a friend of mine, asking me to come talk to her this afternoon.  "It'll only take about 10 minutes then you can go on about your day," she said kindly.  Despite what I know of my friend (to be loving, supporting and gentle in her communication), I plunged into one of my all-too-familiar shame contractions.  Read more >

Maps and directions are useful, and destinations are lovely. But life, love, grace, peace and growth emerge from the journey.

About Me:

Solo Pastor of a congregation, emerging leader within my denomination, happily married to my soulmate, mother of 2 beautiful and vivacious daughters, homeowner. I thought I was where God desired me to be for present and preparation of future until… Through holy discontent the Spirit blazed and turned my life and the life of my family inside out. That was January 2010. I was 38-years-old.

Now a stay-at-home Mom and burgeoning author, I require of myself nothing more than placing one foot in front of the other. I live life, instead of survive it, which is no small miracle. I will never fully arrive, but sojourning with God to the center, out and back and forth again is an adventure well worth embarking upon. Destination unneeded.
