Women Win War on Women!

Women Win War on Women!By Amy PearlIt seems that the multi-prong approach of voter suppression, attack on women’s rights and disregard for science boomeranged in 2012.Despite losing 2 Republican women to retirement, the 113th Congress will have a record 20 female Senators, the most in US history. All six Democratic women up for reelection won their races:...more

California Leads, But Ohio Rules: How I Saw the Election in Ohio

I spent the last two weeks before the election campaigning for President Obama in my hometown of Cincinnati (that’s the southern-most “C” city in Ohio – i.e. not Cleveland or Columbus), in Hamilton County. What would make me leave the 60-degree comfort of life in California to stand out in the cold of Cincinnati as polls opened at dawn? It was nerve-wracking, fun, and inspiring....more

Dumb Campaigners

I confess, I'm a Democratic partisan. But I don't hate Republicans, just the new anti-science, anti-fact, extemist Republican Party.I also confess, sometimes I have some stupid ideas myself.I'm campaigning for President Obama here in my hometown of Cincinnati, Ohio, a conservative city in a swing state. Cincinnati is very Republican - House Majority Leader John Boehner represents Hamilton County, which contains Cincinnati. Cincinnati also has a large African American population, the vast majority of which is not Republican....more

Campaigning for Obama in Ohio

I arrived in my hometown, Cincinnati, Friday morning. After a nap and nice lunch with my Aunt and election co-conspirator, I reported to the Walnut Hills Barack Obama campaign office. I met volunteers from Georgia, Texas, Bakersfield, all over. I was asked to make phone calls, mostly to Obama supporters, asking them to volunteer. Then I learned out to use the database system....more

Voting Results in the Eye of the Beholder

Voting is in the eye of the beholder: At least 30% of Hamilton (OH) County registered voters have voted already. Because of the Cincinnati office out of which I'm working, I've talked to dozens and dozens of President Obama supporters who have already voted. But when I told my Republican brother-in-law the 30% stat, he said, "They're all Romney voters." I think tomorrow I'll go down to the Board of Elections and see who actually is voting early. Will try to post pics....more

2012 DNC - An on-the-ground, personal view from a CA Delegate

I’m sorry I didn’t send email during the Democratic Convention this year as I did 4 years ago and I apologize for being so long getting something out. As a delegate this time, I was so busy during this convention that I didn’t have time to write. Then I was traveling for a week after the convention  If you'd like to be added to my email list, sign up at http://www.amypearl.com/service.html. I ask for geographical information, so that I don't send Silicon Valley specific things to people who don't live here....more

RNC - Shock Therapy for Depressed (CA) Dems?

After one day as a delegate to the convention, my unsurprising observation is that everyone here is a party faithful. They are pumped up - ready to re-elect President Obama, take back the House, and strengthen the Democratic majority in the Senate....more

Hurricane Todd Hits Democratic Convention in Charlotte

I attended the 2008 Democratic convention as a guest and sent out daily emails to friends about my experiences. As a Hillary supporter with a lot of Hillary friends, the Denver convention was high drama -- how would Hillary be treated? How would her speech be received? Would Barack win over those harboring resentment? I felt the Democrats left the last convention with some healing and more unity after the bruising primaries of 2007-2008 and they rallied to get out the vote for the election of Barack Obama....more
