Sustainable Food Budget Challenge Wrap Up

For the month of April, our family has been participating in The Crunchy Chicken's Sustainable Food Budget Challenge.   This challenge certainly has been an eye-opener for our family!  It has been a lot of fun for me, and good for us all.  For the month, our total is $398.56.  Read more >

Thrifty Thursday: Joining a CSA Farm

One of the biggest money savers Rick and I did last year was joining a local CSA farm.  CSA stands for Community Supported Agriculture (see my March 2008 post,  "CSA - And it Tastes Good Too" for more info on how CSA's work and where to find one in your area).  Like buying your meat in bulk or using cloth diapers, the upfront cost of a CSA membership is a lot to shell out at once, but the savings over time is incredible!   Read more >

About Me:
I’m a stay at home mom who has been married to my wonderful husband since 2003.  We had our first  son in 2006 via natural (read: drug free) childbirth.  We are expecting our second baby in July 2009 and are planning a home birth!

Urban homesteading is the concept of making the most of what you have… I LOVE gardening, and would adore living on a farm.  Alas, I live in a small suburb, just outside of the big city.  Rather then pine away for acreage that may or may not ever come our way, we choose to live a rural lifestyle in the midst of the hustle and bustle of Denver.  We fill our little yard with as much fruits, flowers and veggies as it will hold.  We also have seven silly chickens (counting the new additions added spring of 2009).

There are many posts here about gardening, CSA’s, and eating in general (food is a big topic for me).  I also blog about healthcare, natural and green living, childbirth and breast feeding, and simplifying our lives.  I'm all about grass roots, getting outside, digging in the dirt, playing in the mud, living in the mountains.

In addition, I usually add in a weekly “Thrifty Thursday Tip” post on saving money in everyday (and sometimes not so everyday) ways.  This is a community effort between myself and a few other bloggers (links are provided each week).  We are all stay at home mom’s to one or more kiddos and always looking for ways to make one income work for our families.

I hope you enjoy what I have to say.  PLEASE leave me a comment to let me know you’ve stopped by!  And happy reading!
