Audrey Holden

Join Audrey, a writer and photographer, and former Clear Channel air-talent, as she embarks on a poignant personal journey to lose 225lbs and in the process, gain her life back. Audrey writes from a place deep within her heart about the painful loss of her oldest son, Joshua, who died at 2 years of age in August of 1990 and surviving that loss. She also shares, very candidly, about her subsequent struggles with obesity and bulimia, her battle with depression/PTSD and issues surrounding body image and self-esteem. She was recently featured in HBO’s Emmy-nominated groundbreaking documentary mini-series about the obesity epidemic in the United States, “The Weight of the Nation.” Audrey’s writing has been featured in the nationally circulated Woman’s Day magazine, has also appeared in Story Bleed Magazine, the Houston Chronicle’s “Good Mom/Bad Mom”, and she was chosen as of BlogHer’s “Voice of the Week.” Barking Mad also highlights some of Audrey’s stunning photography of the Maine coastline, where she and her family formerly made their home (and hope to return to someday soon), as well as several points of interest around Europe, including the UK where Audrey’s husband is from. Having recently relocated to upstate NY, Audrey is now familiarizing her camera (Maineland & Seascapes Photography, A.E. Holden Photography) with several of the many lovely vistas outside their front doorstep! Gareth and Audrey were first introduced more than 25 years ago via a pen-pal program that both of their schools belonged to. Their friendship spanned more than two decades and an ocean. They finally met face to face in October of 2002. The rest, as they say, is history! Gareth likes to joke that the English are “taking back America, one couple at a time!” Audrey has three older children from a previous marriage, twins – Matt and Meg, who are 23, Zach who is 20, and Gareth and Audrey have one child together, Gaby, who is 7-going-on 17.
